  • Got my G400 DH

    Well, yesterday (Sunday) I did something I didn't expect to.

    I was at a local computer show and there were several venders with g400's. One even had a max, but way overpriced.

    So, I bought one.

    Last night, after the kids went to bed, I took out the G200 16MB, and put in the g400, after uninstalling PD, naturally.

    The thing installed, no problems. I only had Q2 installed, so I did some quick timedemos, just to test it out. The game ran no flaws, and, well, lets say I was absolutely amazed: For instance:

    demo1.dm2, 800x600x16, 16bit Z
    g200 = 31 fps, g400 = 67 fps

    crusher.dm2 1152x864x16, 16bit Z
    g200 = *, g400 = 33 fps.

    So, now I can play at higher res, with more stuff going on, and still go above that magic 30fps barrier.

    Sorry that I didn't get a chance to do some d3d benchmarking or use higher bit depths, but with a two-year-old, I need my own sleepy time.

    P.S. I'm going to post with some feelings on the price of video, and don't worry, it will be pro-matrox.

    * Imagine a skeleton sitting at my computer, with one hand on the mouse, the skull listing to the chest, and cob-webs stretching from the torso to the mouse arm.
