  • So if I'm fill rate limited.....

I just upgraded (?) to a Cel366@550, and have run 3dMark..but noticed that my fill rate didn't move a bit. Does this mean it's finally time to start overclocking my G400?
Interesting to note how going from 112 FSB to 100 drops your big texture rendering speed....

Dark I would think the factor that is limiting your fill rate is the 16 megs on the card, wouldnt the 32 megger get much higher fill rate?

Beats me, I just trust you guys for this kind of stuff....

      If fill rate were based on MB, wouldn't a Voodoo5 be a 128mb V2?

            Hey DarkSyd
            you own a 16mg G400 i see, cool
can you run Unreal Tournament in 32bit?
in any res??? is it playable or poopy poop?
would appreciate your feedback , cos im trying to decide whether the 16mg is holding back performance, or if my motherboard doesnt like my g400? (Jetway BX2000 with Via 4in1 drivers)

and if thats the case, whats the best motherboard to get?
            and where from price ect
            :O)
            thanks guys

I see your excited Jedi :O)
                im pleased for ya!
i love my marvel and want to see it perform well.
It baffles me that theres only a couple of frames differnce between my marvel and a max in Quake 3 demo at 1024x768 with everything on
when unreal tournament just wont run at a playable frame rate in 32bit?

Im hoping its a D3D driver problem and will be resolved in the latest powerdesk.

ie last time i tried quake 1.o8 i had 5.25 and it was exactly same as UT.
But now i have 5.30 and Quakedemo (1.09)
                its absoloutly fantastic

anyone else out there having joy with a 16mg G400?

                  Durango-
My fillrate is stuck at 202MTexels/s (according to 3dmark 99 max), both on my Cel266@448, and my new 366@550 (soon to be 616 )
I'm going to add a fan and give the G400 a bit of a nudge and see what happens.
My 16mb and 32 mb rendering speeds were what dropped with the bus speed drop from 90 fps and 53fps to 68 and 34 respectively. I don't know if that actually makes a difference in any games yet though

                  CMB-
I have been playing UT on my V2 in 800x600, with the new CPU I can says it is playable at 1024x on the G400 (16bit). 32 bit is still too slow in any res (I refuse to play in 640x480). I have tried dropping the detail, but it made it too ugly to bother (wow, 32 bit blurry textures....)

As far as motherboards go, I have absolutely no complaints about my P2B. They are almost impossible to find right now though. For some decnt motherboard reviews, check out www.bxboards.com. MSI's newest bosrd (previewed somewhere, can't find where I saw it) looks sweet, but I probably won't bother till I'm ready to part with the cash for a Coppermine.

Sorry dont mean to be too overly excited, its just I used tohave a g200 8 meg way back when and was very very unhappy with it, thats when they had big problems with ss7 systems and I had a K6-2 300. I did not think I would have any money for a g400 but a friend of mine made me a deal for a brand new vanilla g400 so im really stoked I apologize if im overposting guys and gals

You didn´t notice an increase in your fillrate score because that particular 3dmark test does not stress the cpu at all. It has no geometry to calculate, just pixels to pump. And if you oc the G400, you´ll get almost a linear increase with the clock speed. It´s just a syntetic benchmark, with all its limitations.

The fillrate doesn´t even count to the final 3dmark score.

dont apologise Jedi, were pleased for ya!
a friend of mine, having been telling me Matrox is shite for the past month
has just got a G400, and sold off his TNT 2

I'm only sad to say he'll sell it as soon as his shop gets in a GeForce, he's just got this to play with until then i think
(he wouldnt admit it but i know him too well)

its kinda annoying actually He works at a computer store and builds pc's and comes across hardware easy as breathing
I video edit quite a lot and have 26 gig in total i have no proper games installed either just a hand full of demos
whereas he has 396mg of Ram and 36 gig
                          the reason for this?

sometime in the future he might want to digitally alter a photograph??????????

He actually rang me up and said
"Ive got a G400, what can i do with it?"

the other thing is he as access to all this hardware, yet he has an OEM G400 Single head
isnt that kinda like getting a 3dfx card without glide support?
Dual Head is one of the main perks for me

Its scary to think this guy works on a tech support line for the better part of the day!!

look at me im rambling..... hee hee

                          Again Jedi, Have fun
load up slave Zero and see bump mapping, its cool

Thanks, I ran some more Q@ benchmarks, and fps still increased with increased CPUmhz. So I guess I'm not fill limited. And 42 fps @ 1280x960 is good enough for me
