  • Marvel G400TV SPD ERROR

My G400 Marvel TV displays the following error in the dos screen before win98 boots !
"warning spd not found at DIMM(s) 1 2" ( message is flashing )

Reverting to my original G200 Marvel has no problems at all !

    Help anyone??

    Hi,

I get this on my G400 32Mb Dual Head card. It's basically a motherboard thing and you may need a BIOS upgrade. Can anyone else shed any light on this please?

    Rgds

SPD stands for Serial Presence Detect PROM
(Programmable Read-Only-Memory) and it can be found on most SDRAM DIMMS. The code in the SPD tells your motherboard which timing parameters it should use for the given memory stick (e.g. CAS latency, Column access strobe latency). It's weird that a graphics card influences the SPD detection or function. Never heard this one before because it's an interaction between Mainboard and Main Memory at bootup only.
Maybe a BIOS update corrects this issue.

I've seen this before (Not with a Matrox card, mind you), and have no idea why it does it. Anyway, put the original card in, note what CAS setting your RAM runs at, then stick in the new card, and manually set the CAS timing in the BIOS.

As the others have said - a BIOS upgrade may be necessary.
