  • I have MGA Tweak now, what do i want to change?

I want to over clock my Millennium G400 32 meg, SH card to it's maximum output...

I have a P3, 450 Mhz not o/c... and the Mga Tweak says that the dividers are set at 2/1.5/2.
    The FO = 250MHz

    Graphics Clock = 126MHz
    Memory clock = 168MHz
    WARP clock = 126MHz

    What do i start with?

I by no means am an expert, but start by tweaking the Fo setting. Increase it in small increments 2-5 MHz. Hit the "Apply" button and check 2 of the three boxes in the top right (Minimize to tray and clock monitoring...I think is what they're called...I'm at work right now.)

Then run your favorite bench...3dMarkMax is what I normally use. If you get screen corruption, reboot and don't set the Fo as high. You probably won't get much higher than 300 on the Fo setting. Maybe as much as 310. As for the RAM settings, I'm a newbie to that and I'll let someone else comment.

Read the readme file for more pointers...

Right after i posted that original message, i found the readme...

I put the FO up to about 290 MHz... and it was fine... the core speed reached JUST below 150/200... and it was rock stable... I don't want to push it too far, incase i wreak my card! So 150/200 seems reasonable to me, right?

            Hi,

You are rock stable at 150/200 ????
No attributes such as dots, lines in games or desktop. It`s unbelievable.

My g400DH32MB causes me sometimes these already at FO=297,148.5/198/148.5 MGA tweak ----118% o/c matrox overcl.util.
            Without attributes is 117%.Fo=293.14, .....
Attributes are only SGRAM o/c products.

wish you LOOK SHARP and you`ll see it!!!

            bye

              Hi,

I know what you're talking about... IF i put the FO at exactly 300MHz... then some dots and lines show up on the desktop... But if i put it back down until they dissappear, the FO is 290MHz. And yes it is rock stable. I've run it for 3 hours playing Unreal. And that is a massive engine... so if it works on that, then it's stable! My comp is a fairly fast system... P3, 450MHz not o/c... 128 ram... so i think that's why it's stable at those speeds...

I only use MGA Tweak... not that other thing... although i do have it.

                Hi all,

I have no problems with sys clock set to 300MHz. I get 150/200 speed, which is the MAX speed. It has been running for two months now with no glitches at all!!!

A word of advice though, don't forget to attach a fan to our VANILLA G400 coz it could get real hot in there!!!

                  Hello Iskandhar Shahril,

Which G400DH32MB vanilla you have 1.Retail 2.OEM. Maybe existing differencies between these cards ,exact SGRAM Memory timings.
My G400 has 6ns mem and 200Mhz for it, is too much. I have five fans COMBO, they makes a hurricane in case, therefore hot is no problem for me.

Run newest Quake3 demo at your conditions (150/200) and notice sky`s in DM1 or DM3 maps. There must be dark dots floating through sky, when G400DH32MB is overclocked, it`s fact for me.

                  ..sorry my english.

                  Bye

150/200 is not too much for (many) G400. I run my retail G400 DH 32 Mb 6ns memory at 150/200 and it goes as high as 153/204 and above it, yes it starts displaying screen corruption.

with a good fan and some memory heatsinks you can better the max speeds even with the -6ns memory as nuno states

                          Hi Guys!
My Millenium G400 DH 32MB 6ns SGRAM, which Matrox sent me, can go at Fo=294MHz without any display glitches. However, playing around with SGRAM optimization to tune down the memory timings, the system will be perfectly at MAX speed, ie. Fo-301.50MHz. I believe this has already been told at MatroX Files, but he didn't document on how to do this. I'll show how to do this on my website in time to come.

I'm currently being in an unstale state due to my graduation as I need to move stuffs back to my hometown. As soon as I get settled down, I'll update my websites. I'm sorry for those Matrox NT users who are eagerly waiting the NT release of MGATweak. It's done and just waiting to be released. There will also be a DPMS screen saver for Windows NT specifically written to support all Matrox cards, as Windows NT4 currently lacks any form of power management.

I'm also planning to release some articles which deal with using MGATweak, and common Matrox G200/G400 problems on Super7. Hopefully, this will solve most Super7/MGATweak related questions.

                          I'll be back soon.

My Vanilla G400 is the retail version, assembled in IRELAND. I'm not such a techie, so I don't really know what the SGRAM memory timings.

And anybody know anymore settings, SGRAM optimisation? Please advice.

                            Thanks.

                              Yeeeehaw,

My G400 32DH OEM 6ns SGRAM (assembled in CHINA) does 150/200 without desktop attributes, dots, lines etc... I just enabled SGRAM optimization feature in MGATWEAK,
but I got performance loss in QUAKE3DEMO about 2 fps.

                              KJLIEW:
Yes, you told this in MGATWEAK PDF file.
                              "Using SDRAM/SGRAM optimization
without properly configuring the settings will result in performance loss."

Now I`ll tweak it according to your "Step-by-Step: Finding Good SDRAM/SGRAM Optimization (For G400 Users)" PDF guide.

Congratulations and best wishes to your graduation.
