  • G400 IRQ question

On my system there's IRQ 9 FREE!

Why G400DH and SBLive! share same (IRQ 11) instead using free one? (IRQ 9!!!)

When 2 very complicated cards like G400 and SBLive share same IRQ there's some speed/stability problems or all works well?
(I'm using Win98SE and i dont see any conflicts, but with Win9x i dont be sure...)

But are you having any problems? Sometimes cards get along just fine on the same IRQ.

you may want to change those. My MAX and my soundcard were both on IRQ 11 and it really screwed things up when I started playing games.....

If you want the cards on different IRQ's, delete the sound card in device manager, shut down, move the sound card to the last open slot farthest from the G400, reboot and reinstall the SBlive drivers when Windows asks for them. Reboot after driver install. This should move your SB to a lower IRQ. Avoid using the two slots next to the G400 if you want to keep the G400 on an IRQ by itself.

            AGP is used by G400
1st PCI slot (near AGP) is empty!
            2nd PCI slot is empty!
3th used by VooDoo 2 card.
            4th is empty!
            5th is used by SBLive!

Where i have to put my SBLive / VooDoo2 ?

                Here's my specs:

                CPU: Celeron 300@464, 128mb,
                EIDE1: 10gb Quantum CL + 4Gb Western Digital
EIDE2: Iomega Zip EIDE + CdRom Mitsumi 24x
AUDIO: SB Live Value on 5th PCI Slot(IRQ11) - Liveware 3.0!
                3DACC: Creative VooDoo2 12Mb on 3th PCI slot
                VIDEO: Matrox G400DH 16Mb AGP (IRQ11)

                MOUSE: Logitech Pilot+ PS/2 (with PS2Rate!)
                MONITOR: Nec C500

IRQ 9 is still free! Videocard and Soundcard share the same!!! (IRQ 11)

                WHY?

I tried to change PCI Slot IRQs throught BIOS setting, and tried also reserving some IRQ to ISA card, but seems that Win98SE doesn't uses that settings.
(I tried also to disable USB IRQ, but Win98SE use it!!!)

                here my IRQ map:

What version of Creative's Liveware are you running. If it's V2 or later you can get the SB16 emulation to share IRQ7 and hopefully the Matrox will move to IRQ5.
I think the problem with IRQ9 and Win98SE is it gets reserved so that it can be used for ACPI if enable. Just out of interest, is ACPI enable in your BIOS, and what power management settings have you got (in the BIOS)?

George - You do not want the G400 on IRQ 5. It should be on 9,10,11 or 12.

SiRiO - All motherboards share IRQs with one or more PCI slots and the AGP slot. If there is a card in one of those sharing slots, there is nothing you can do to separate the cards IRQs. Find your mobo's web page, and try to find out which PCI(s) is sharing with the AGP, and put the sound card somewhere else.

Also, in your bios disable the option for PnP O/S. Let the bios control the resources rather than Windows...
