  • Brightness changes?

I posted this on the flanker list before I found this user group... Here goes:

I got my G400 last week, installation went fine but there is this little
anoying thing that happens with the monitor and I can't pinpoint whether the
trouble is with the monitor or the Matrox G400.

Every few minutes the brightness of the display would change from bright to
darker or from dark to brighter. This is accompanied by a slight fliker (as
if the display has been adjusted!!. I tried different colour depth and
different resolutions and it seems to happen more oftern at higher
    resolutions.

I am using the G400 with a MAG Innovision MX17FG monitor (some five years of
age). Before the G400 I had a Matrox Millennium I, and this problem was not
there. I don't have another monitor around so it is not easy to test it on a
    different monitor.

Do you think this thing is the card or the monitor ?!

    Regards

    hmmm .. no clue

but just in case you should shut down your computer, disconnect all plugs and check whether you G400 sits properly and completly in its APG slot. Then reconnect all cplugs thoroughly and see if the problem remains.

That's most likely monitor. I just saw a company throw out 5 Compaq 19" (5 years old, nice little dig display below bezel). They were marked as flickering. I took one home, saw it was fuzzy (trinitron tube). Took off cover, found two focus adj. Picture nice and sharp, no flickering. Next day it starts doing the light/dark dance you're describing. I banged every part of it, then threw it out. If you spend $200 to repair a monitor and it goes out in 6 months, you're shit outta luck

Paul, how often does this brightness change occur? With me it happens every 5 minutes or so. I also noticed it happens more often in NT4 than Win98!
