  • G400-32-SH and Clippit!

The problems I am having with constant freeze ups also happens when MS Office 2000's Assistant pops up. Just as soon as Clippit show's his little metallic butt, I'm headed for a hard reset. I WAS going to put my V3 back in, That was until I heard my baby girl tapping something on metal and saying "Can I play with this?", when I turned, she was WHACKING my precious V3 3000 on my wife's $35 yard sale SKY GLIDER. Not one to buy another video card, I had to resort to putting my G400 back in. As I've posted before, most of my freezes were resolved by using a 32bpp color depth. But Clippit has the will to overcome such trivial things. PLEASE, no posts concerning IRQ's, Old drivers, or other versions of drivers. ALL drivers for the G400 do it. NO IRQ's are being shared by the G400. I've done all that a 12 year vet can. 17 if I count the Commodore 64 I had at 13. This one is in Matrox's court.

What op system? If it's Win 98 or 98 SE, have you tried System File Checker?

I have solved some problems with the use of this utility as long as you have the check for changed and check for deleted files options checked under settings.

When I had a Permedia card, the Office 2000 install changed a dll that caused the Diamond control panel to freak out. SFC identified files changed and I was able to research files changed and correct problem. It also allowed me to solve a scanner link failure that was caused by my Adaptec EZ SCSI 5.0 install. Just used this as an example, may not help you at all.

I do have Win 98 SE/Office 2000 with a G400 MAX though and I can use whatever Office assistant I want. Get the biggest kick out of the Genius.

If you can't use 16 bit color without lock ups and 32 bit is fine, then try the card in another system... does the same thing? contact Matrox and see if they have diagnostic tool or if they find proper to repair the card...

Put it all back together using an Intel SE440BX-2 (My favorite Board anyway), and all is working fine.
