    what Im asking is, do I have it on?
    powerdesk 5.30, G400 32Mb dual Head

    And as a side issue does it affect performance at all?
    P3 700Mhz cB0 stepping, G400MAX,Abit BE6-2 RV Bios,Quantum KX 7200 13Gig,256Mb 100SDram,Asuscom ISDN,SCSI 100Mb zip int,SB Live Value,Tosh 6702, HP 9110i.

    No, you cannot 'turn it off'. The term simply means (as far as I'm aware, anyway) that the RAMDAC which produces the final picture is of a very high quality, and so gives you a very good representation of the image supplied.
    No performance issues at all.

      No go, vibrating colors(tm) were added to the sillicon mousse before baking.

        Vibrant Color Quality^2 is simply a marketing buzzword for the following combination that the G400 supports:

        - 32 bit color textures
        - 32 bit color framebuffer
        - 32 bit z-buffer (or 24 bit z-buffer and 8 bit stencil buffer)

        As you can see, there is nothing new under the sun. ;-)

          and...

          MIP mapping level -> 11...

          It seems that G200 only supports up to level 5 or 7... (ROM had mentioned it before, but I didn't remember it very clearly...)

          More MIP mapping levels, more accurate texture can be selected when it rendering large scaling texture...

          That's why G400's rendering quality is better than G200 and others...

            My guess is that what the site was referring to was the use of 32bitZ.

              Another of the key features of VCQ^2 is that even though the output is in 16 bit, the internal rendering is still done in 32 bit, resulting in less color banding (Matrox has PDF files on the subject).

                Just to make sure: This isn't a new concept. Internal rendering at 32 bit has been done already in the Voodoo1 chipset. But some sites, seem to forget that and hype this as a new G400 functionality only.

                  To turn Vibrant Color Quality off is relatively simple and painless.
                  First you run the Matrox uninstaller.
                  2nd, you switch to standard PCI Display adapter,
                  3rd you shutdown your PC
                  4th remove the side of your case
                  5th remove the G400
                  6th install a TNT2/GeSpot/V3
                  7th boot up and install the drivers for your new card.
                  8th Wonder where all of your "performance Gains" are...
