  • KRUZIN you might help me>>everyone else look inside >g400 wont work

I just bought a g400 oem 32 megs ..the computer i tested it on is slow 233 cyrix 128ram,but it does install and works fine..for a while but around a 2 min uporn te boot it freezes..it freezed on me 9 times almost on the same time.. i took it off and stuck my old card and it works fine..i stick this back in and it freezes again(it does go to win95 or 98 but freezes around 2 min late)
I would like to test this as soon as i can cause the replace guarantee is only 30 days upon the receiving the card..helppp.dont think that its the cpu speed cause it does run for a while..anyone runs g400 on an AMD?

Hmm.. hard to tell what it could be w/o any system info.
What are your IRQ assignments, and what other cards do you have in the system. I'm sure we can help, but just need more info

      Which is it...AMD or Cyrix?

If it's a Cyrix 233 you plan to run this on, you may as well take the G400 back right now (or better yet, get a different processor). That rig doesn't even meet the minimum system requirements for the G400. A Cyrix 233 isn't even a 233. It probably more like a 200 (I have a Cyrix 166 sitting on my desk...166+ is what they call it...133 is what it really is). And just because an older video card works in the box doesn't mean a G400 will...

Cyrix chips are the dregs of pc society. They where notorious for overheating, and causing memory errors. Concidering the way G400 uses AGP and system memory, it would be no surprise to me if it didn't work. Hell, I'm surprised it even booted up

If it's an AMD, plenty of people run their G400 with them. Detail your system specs(including IRQ assignments), and we'll see what we can do...

            Try this:

            Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Information>Hardware Resources>IRQs

I'm assuming you're using Windows98. I can't remember if the command chain is the same in Windows95.

To find IRQ setting in win9x, one way is to goto the Device Manager, and Double click on "computer" (at the top of the device lists) this will bring up a window where you can look at IRQ's or DMA's or memory adressing, also where you can "reserve resouces"...

As mentioned above there are more ways with Win98 and I'm sure there are utilities that do this as well...

                    Hi all,

shortest way into Sysinfo is pressing win and break keys.
