  • Need advice, buying a G400

I'm planning to get a G400 and I would like some input here.
My system Cel 400@500, 128 mg PC100, 17" monitor (1280x1024@60 Hz max), SBlive, etc...
    I have a few question:

    1) Is the OpenGl been improved well (I'm a previous G200 owner...)

    2) Is the TurboGl increasing speed even in non PIII or non-Athlon system (i.e Celeron ?).

    3) Since I'm playing mostly at 1024x768, is a 16 Meg card enough or should I go to the 32 meg card ?

    4) Is the card overclockable ?

    5) Are the issue with Half-life been addressed ? (I'm a Huge fan of TFC)

I know about image quality of the G400 so please no need to tell me that it is the most oustanding, I know it. ( I've owned a RAGE 2+, RIVA128, Rendition V2200, G200, TNT1, V3 2000, so I know basically the difference in image quality (never saw EBM in action tough....).

Any input would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    jackzod

    Hi Jackzod,

    1) yes

    2) nope

    3) depends on the application > local RAM is always faster than AGP transfer

    4) yes (I have two Vanillas and both run above default MAX clocks)

    5) which issues ? (HL runs fine on my machines)

    6) go & get it

      Hi
      Thanks for the help,
I have an another question, I have an Abit BH6 Mobo, I just read that there are some problem with G400, Sblive (which I owned) and some Abit board, Is the BH6 one of them ?

      Thanks again

You can't say if you are going to get trouble with you're motherboard and a G400, if you have problems with you're g400 the people over here will help you solve them !

          Hi jackzod,

There have been a few issues with ABIT boards involving - IRQ conflicts, SB Live drivers older than 2.0 and proper fit/alignment of the card. It just depends on the individual system.
If you do have any problems you already know where the BEST technical support is

Here's a few links related to issues with ABIT Boards.
