  • A problem with an Millenium II

I am having a problem with a Millenium II (yes people do still use them) which I have had for a few years. I have never had any problems until recently when the computer started reseting just after Windows had started. This started happening ocasionally but then happened all the time.

The card was still working under Linux with no problems so I assumed it was a Windows problem. After several Windows reinstalls (using a complete re-format) didn't cure the problem, I started turning acceleration options off. Eventually I discovered that Bus Mastering was causing the problem and the card works fine without it on.

Does anybody know why this might happen as the performance of the card is now much reduced and the video playback is quite poor.

If anybody could suggest a fix that would be great, I have tried moving the card from one slot to another and have also tried several different driver versions.

Please don't suggest anything that would cost a lot of cash as I'm only a poor student.

Unless the card's broken, you must have changed something in your system

    - Did you add a card, then notice the problem?

    - Did you remove a card, then notice the problem?

    - Did you start using something that wasn't in use, like USB or an integrated SCSI controller that you didn't use prior to the card's problems?

I've MII cards (three) and they've not given me problems in the year I've had them. All are 4MB PCI units.

Post your system specs. It may help us figure out what's wrong.

nah, i wouldn't waist my time and would simply leave bus mastering to off... The mil2 is a 2D card... I find that you will notice a big difference mostly in games... I had mine set to disabled even if it was working...
