    i just installed linux, when i try to get in, it asks me for a password and a username, I only entered root password during install, so what is the username?

    It's been a while since i used Red hat, but I think that the login is ROOT... in lowercase... better ask in the alternate lifestyle forum for a better response

      The username is 'root'. You should make yourself a normal account ASAP and log in with that.

        Yes, once you're in as root, run userconf. Oh, and RTFM!!

          Yep, the username is "root".

          BTW, remember to use XFree3.3.5 for accelerated XFree desktop in case you are running a G400...

          XFree3.3.5 is readiliy available in Mandrake 6.1 and Redhat 6.1. :-D

            Also remember NOT to run the computer casually with root. Especially X or Netscape or what not. Make yourself a user account. Besides, Gnome seems faster as a user..
