  • G400 DVD assist

I just installed my new G400 card yesterday. When I play a DVD my CPU use is just as high as it was before. I had Cinemaster 1.028. I removed the engine from the system folder and installed the new player. Is ther some other part to cinemaster that may be causing this?

What do you mean by this? You are comparing it to what? Remember that the G400 DVD is also software and not hardware... there is no decoder on the card.

The card has some hardware assist on it. It has posted that cpu use is lower than with software alone. It was recently posted to use about 35%. I'm still using 90%. Exactly the same as with my G200.

35%??? Not with your CPU... Maybe with P3/Athlon-600+
G400 doesn't have anything besides hardware sub-picture blending, hardware color-space conversion and hardware scaling...
NO hardware Motion Compensation or IDCT here, unfortunately.

I know I won't get that low. Someone had posted that they went from 90% on G200 with software to 35% with G400. They didn't mention what software DVD they were using. I am playing the movies fine, I just was wondering how the G400 lowered their cpu use. Mine stayed the same. They must have been refering to SoftDVD vs Digicore.
          Thank you for the response.

Accoring to Finnish Computer magazine called "Mikrobitti" best DVD playing performance was achieved with Matroxs own player. But the other players they used to test it were PowerDVD and XingDVD
