  • A note for Haig, Matrox, and those ordering a card online

I do not know which heading to put this info/question under, so I started a new thread. First thing is:
    -----
    1) I order and received my Marvel G400 a few eeks ago. I received my card with the HEATSINK hanging by one pin swiveling over the other components. I put the heatsink back in place and pushed the pin back in the hole. I do not think the other components were damaged but it could have been catastrophic.
    ---------
    2) I could not find a provision on the Matrox web site to register my Marvel G400. I tried and looked but it was not set up to register mine. Is it already registered to me when I purchased it? I recall that when I purchased another card, my Mystique G200 a couple years ago, I registered it online (I think), after ordering it online.
    -------
I have contacted Matrox technical support, by E-mail,(hope that was the right place to contact, as when I looked on their web site, that looked like the place to send both questions, at one time).
    Thanx in advance.

    Hi,

Be sure that the pin is now stable and that the heathsynk will not fall again... if you have any problem, I recommend that you contact the Online Store ASAP and tell them about this. They might simply ship you anotehr card and ask that you return this one.... that is IF anything else is wrong... why go through all this problem if it was simply loose

As for the registration, it is not very important.. matrox will still grant the full 3 year warranty on the card as long as you have your model and serial number.

      Hi Steve,

You can send an email to webmaster@matrox.com and register it there if you like. Send in your name, address, model #, serial #, and date of purchase. Even if you don't do this, the manufacturer warranty of 3 years will apply. This warranty is only for free repairs. Tech Supp is free no matter how long you have your card.

Thanx Haig. I sent them an E-mail to make sure it is registered. One question. When I used to work as an engineering techinican and engineer in electronics, most companies I worked for we did 'shake and bake' tests to make sure that products could handle the stress of environmnet, heat, cold, shaking. I mean the extremes too, even if the product was not sold to the government and/or military there were specs. ie., 300 degrees F/50 degrees below/ shaking and frequenices/vibration/10-20KHZ. All kinds of tests to make sure that the heat/cold/shaking/vibration did not kill the product. This did not include a burn in rack which is done for many products. if this testing were done during testing. Or, at least done during the design and proofing process then parts like the heatsink pins coming loose during shipping would probably not happen. Just my many years of experience talking here after recieving a board that this happened to. But, the board seems to be working ok. The problem is that the parts the heatsink were floating over with only one pin secures was that those parts are surface mount and you need a microscope to see any damage, unless it damaged something that shows up when in operation. Just a heads up to make sure your manufacturing and shipping processes (quality control) does a good job. My card does seem to be working ok, but, you really should put something for protection on the board before it ships. Thanx for your quick response on my original note to this forum.
