  • Question on Athlon, FIC and G400 MAX

    Hi All,

I plan on upgrading my old PII 400 and got a chance to get an Athlon with a FIC motherboard and would like your recommendation on this board or combo with my MAX? Anyone here as that board or tested it? Any comments or suggestions before I get it?

If so, does the G400 run in 2X? Any conflicts?

I personnaly do not love FIC motherboard... too many problems and too slow... But I have no idea with this new board and slot A board.. freaks me out, so your help will indeed be appreciated... at least to calm me or stress the heck out of me!!! Anyone from Matrox with comments on this?

I'd wait a little bit. I like my FIC board, but I hear that Asus's new K7M board is coming out now, and looks like a promising SlotA design.

This guy does a pretty good job.

Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Ditto on that... the MS-6167 that I have is nice and stable but I'd hold out for the Asus myself if I were you.

        Hi,

Problem is that I need to buy it in the wekk to come... Furthermore, Asus recently released some pretty bad mobo's... there are starting to release to many different things and it shows on the general value of their Mobo's... Anyhow, I have asked for the FIC today... If I am not happy I'll change it right away....

        Thanks for your suggestions.

I haven't checked in a few days, but... the FIC SD-11 does have a problem running at or above 650! A BIOS update is in the works... but if getting one with one of the faster Athlons... I'd get the MSI instead. Kyrotech is using them in their Athlon systems and they have'm running at 900 now!

I have the same config (athlon 600, sd-11, max) and am very pleased with it. I find the whole no faster than 650 thing a little bothersome, but I figure I by the time I want a faster processor I'll have a new mobo with the via agp 4x chipset. If I were in your shoes, I would prolly wait for the asus though.
