  • G400 resolution

Why cant i increase the resolution past 1024x768x32. I cant find any software that will let me.
Is it due to my compaq 151fs monitor?
My G400 is the 32mb DH OEM
I also have some software which is 3dfx only, Do i need a patch to run them?

    Cheers

goto the adv. display properties, Monitor-tab and choose one of the 'Standard Display Types' given by Matrox ...
    (for example 1280x1024 @60-75 Hz)

      Thanks,
but that does not achieve what i am trying to do.
I cant get any software to run higher than 1024x768 - My friend has a riva TNT2 - same system spec, but he can get games such as AvP to run at 1600x1200.
      Is the riva TNT2 better?

        Hi.

Sounds like you have "dual head clone" enabled in advanced display settings. If you do not have a second monitor, or do not use TV out, disabling does only good for you. If and when you need to clone to a second monitor, you just have to live with this limitation.

Hey guys, could it be it's his monitor???

Cheggers, with my monitor I usually play game at the higher res they permit, and had no trouble to play in 1600 x 1200 at 32 bit.

Which is the maximum res your monitor can reach? Are you sure that it permit you the higher res?

            Okidoki, a bit more explicit:

It looks like your monitor reported itself via PnP thta its max. resolution is 1024x768, hence no game should give you an option to choose higher than that.

My suggestion is some kind of workaround, by choosing a Matrox-definined monitor setup over its PnP capabilities.

For example my good old Amiga monitor (MicroVitec 1438) maxes out at 800x600 via PnP, but choosing the monitor profile named 'Vesa 102x768@60Hz' gave me the option to setup 1024x768@50Hz (!) which is quite cool for such an old tube ... got it ?

oh, yes ... it could very well be that TVout is enabled (like Meek said) and 1024x768 is the max. res. available with TVout on ...

                  NFS-4 for example at 1600x1200 ...

It really depends on the game you are using (performance hit in hi-res) and which resolutions are supported in that particular game ...

                    Maggi,

I'm having very similar problems to Cheggers with my system. After 5 fresh installs of Win98 and two HD formats, I still can't get my G400 DH working properly. When I install the 5.25 or 5.30 or any drivers for that matter, the highest resolution that I can get in display properties is 1280x768x32. That's of course when it works at all. However, when I first installed 5.30 when I first got my card, I could set the res to 20xxX1024 (not that my monitor could handle that, but the option was there). After enabling Dual Head, the available resolutions that I had dropped to what I can get now. Now I can't get them back up there. Any Ideas?

Oh, and while i'm at it, I think that my card is running too slow. In Quake2, 800x600x32, AMD K6-2 400 o/ced to 450, 128MB ram. I'm only getting 32 FPS in Quake2 timedemo1 demo1.dm2, and 16 FPS in Crusher at the same res. Any ideas there?

                    Thanks
                    Cmag
