  • ATTN MAggi: Vanilla G400s w/ 5ns & fan-connector.: retail or oem ?

    Hi,

Looking for a christmas present for me,
    I'm in the market for a G400 32MB/DH now.

There has been mentioning of the so-called
    "failed MAXes", i.e. G400s that didn't make
it to a MAX, but still have both the
    fan-connector and 5ns RAM.

At the time, it's impossible to get a retail
G400 here in Germany :-(, but I would like
to know if these "failed MAXes" are only
retail cards or are they oem, too (this
is called 'bulkware' in Germany, btw).

    Anybody know this ?

Specifically Maggi, you wrote that you're
from Hamburg, too (moin, btw ...Where
    did you buy yours ???

Maggi didn't buy his G400 nonMAX - got it as part of the Beta testing team. But he has got a MAX in his work rig AFAIK, but I don't know if he knows where it came from.

I think that getting a failed MAX is just a matter of pure luck. Maybe someone else knows different?

    Cheers,
    Steve

PS: Some or all of the above message may be wrong, or, just as likely, correct. Depends on what mood I'm in. And what you know. ;¬)

The cards are not OEM... it is, as SteveC pointed out, a matter a luck!

      Good luck to you!

        hehehe ... moin, moin !!!

I have two Vanillas ... the one at home came from Matrox for testing purposes (as Stevie said) and runs at MAX-speed.

The one here at work runs at stock speed and was purchased via our 'house-dealer' more-computer in Berlin ... (runs at 125% without any problems, but my boss would kill me if I ruined the card)

For hunting in and around Hamburg, I recommend:
        http://www.marin-computer.de/ http://www.ssm-computer.de/ http://www.hw-elektronik.de/ http://www.schiwi.de/

        ...

All are located in Hamburg, fairly cheap and at least you'll have a chance to actually LOOK at the cards before purchasing ...

So go out and have a close look onto those RAM chips !

Btw, where do you live in Hamburg ?

        ------------------
        Cheers,
        Maggi

Thanks for pointing out the links, Maggi

I hate HW (Hauwech-Elektronik and SCHIWI,
though...some of the unfriendliest staff to
work in computer stores ever...had some bad experiences with RMA's, too.

BTW, I live in Barmbek (have to, I can't
afford the rent elsewhere). If I had a choice, I would be living in Winterhude,
          Alsterdorf or Eimsbüttel, though...Have to
be near the Uni somehow ;-)

          I'll go hunting...

LOL ... what took you so long to reply ?
No connect at the uni ?

Anyway, Schiwi was actually the only dealer that opened the retail case of a Marvel G200 for me, just because I wanted to find out if it already had the .25 micron chip on it ... they can't be that bad

Btw, I work in Eimsbüddl ...

              Hi there,

I hang around the MURC forums a lot, but not that much , that's what took me so long...

BTW, we must be talking of different SCHIWI
outlets. I referred to the Winterhude one
(really, they have some crappy staff) while
I guess you referred to the Norderstedt one,
              living/working in Eimsbüttel...

I'll look around at Tuesday for my G400.

nope ... I meant Schiwi in Winterhude ...

Maybe the staff has changed ???

                Anyway, good hunting !
