  • why are you having so many problems!!! (G400)

I don't understand why so many people are having such bad problems with the G400, I've installed two of them into two completely different systems and whalah! no problems, Oone is even running on irq 5!?! AGP 2x from the start, ogl from the start, and wicked cool o/c'ing FROM THE START!!!

STEP 1) REMOVE ALL PREVIOUS DRIVERS FROM ALL PREVIOUS VIDEO CARDS

STEP 2) BE SURE THE CARD IS PLUGGED INTO THE MOBO, DUH!

    STEP 3) DON'T SHARE IRQS!!!!!

STEP 4) INSTALL THE NEWEST DRIVERS FOR YOUR MOBO

STEP 5) INSTALL G400 LATEST DRIVERS

    STEP 6) ENJOY!

oh well, just needed to express my feelings(tm) about all the belly aching

Someone give DuRaNgO a beer!!!!! QUICK!!!!

These are new G400 owners with problems who were probably recently refered here because we do such a good job They weren't around during the past few months when we solved all these issues. And ya know what?? They won't stop comming for quite awhile.

Feel better yet??? We still need ya in here.

I had major problems with mine becuase i decided to upgrade my shitty video card before i upgraded my motherbaord and chip, becuase i belived the awesome vid card would boost my fps in games and would be cheaper.
What i failed to take into acount was the fact that my new G400 MAX was TOO powerful for my AMD 300 and VIA motherboard.

With my new PIII 450 and BX6 motherboard everything worked great from the start.

My motherboard just couldnt handle the power of the G400 MAX! > : )

just a question, i just chekced my system settings after i read this post and it seems my sblive and g400 max are both sharing irq 11 !! but i am having NO problems at all except for the bit of tv flickering that is getting annoying!

any idea on what i should do ?

IRQ sharing is _very_ bad. One common example is your network card and your soundcard using the same IRQ. Everything _seems_ to work, but during network play of Q3test you have massive packetloss and lag.
In your case, check to see in your BIOS under the Plug and Play/PCI submenu if there is the option to assign a specific IRQ to a certain slot, otherwise, just try moving the SB Live! to different slots and find one that doens't conflict.

                        Speedy,

The PCI128 is just the Ensoniq chipset Creative bought. So is the 512... although it's tweaked (I think). The Live! is an all-new chip (well ok a year old now). Better, faster, less CPU overhead, more nifty stuff.

In most applications, same sound quality though. I wouldn't upgrade (if I were you) until the next generation of chips.

My G400 is sharing an IRQ with my SBLive! and it has worked (in three different systems) faultlessly.

The Soundblaster Live!, Value, Player, Platinum, etc, all use the Creative EMU10K1 processor.
