  • Should I buy a G400 32 Meg Dual Head?

    System Specs:

    AMD K-6II 400 o/c to 450
Lucky Tech Motherboard (I know, it's not great
    Sound Blaster Live Value
    17" KTX Monitor
    15" Dell
and so forth and so on

i was just wondering if it would be worth it for me to upgrade to the G400? Am I really going to see a huge performance increase? Also, I'm having problems with any drivers above PD 4.51 and I'm just wondering if these will carry over to the G400. Problems like random crashes, unable to exit windows without rebooting, and so forth.

    Wadda think guys?

    Hi,

That always depends on what card you have now in your system... i think that the G400 is a great card, especially if you use dual monitor!!! But one thing to ask first if there is anyone else that uses KTX monitors... I heard that there where problems with these at one point that should be fixed with the latest drivers... but never heard back from these people here... Anyways, I still think that if you wnat to change video card, the G400 would be amongs my best picks.

Well, if your a frames-per-second junkie, then your CPU may be a little too low-end to feed the G400's appetite. I have a P2 350 and a G400 and I love it, but visual quality means more to me than FPS. If your gonna upgrade to a P3 CPU/mobo anytime soon, I'd jump on the G400, since it destroys the TNT2 Ultras at high resolutions on high end CPUs. If not, if speed is your thing, you may want a doodoo3 or a TNT2. Depends on whats more important to you. Never heard of a "Lucky Tech" mobo before. You may wanna junk that.

Don't bother with it. I've got one on eval, and I sucks like a big sucky thing. Driver support is pitiful to non-existant.

I would recommend a Trio64 over the G400 after the cack-handed way they deal with drivers and developers.

Well, I went and bought one today. I waited a whole 25 min. after posting this thread before I broke down and got one.

              How is it you ask?

Well, after a complete re-install of Win98, everything seems to be working properly. I haven't really had a chance to check out it's performance yet as I haven't had the time to load any benchmarking programs or games. That will have to wait untill tomorrow as it's 3:10am right now. I do have the multi-monitor function working properly though, and I'm pretty impressed so far. I'll keep you posted.

              G-Night!

I've had a G400 32MB Dual-Head since July, and it has been great.

Best graphics card I've ever used or owned no question.

Do you guys really mean 'Lucky Tech', or 'Lucky Star'... because Lucky Star (who I have never heard of, either) is coming out with an Athlon mobo in the near future and it's based on the new VIA chipset... not worth considering?? [damn...!]

                              Hey motub,

I actually meant Lucky Tech. It's some no name board that they put in my system when I had it built. I haven't had many problems with it except for the usual IRQ problems that everyone seems to excperience once in a while. I will be replacing it soon though during my next system upgrade.
