  • 32bit Z Buffer.. enabled or disabled?

Just a little question to the masses.
I've had my G400 a couple of weeks now and I'm dead chuffed with it
Got the latest PD5.3 and TGL nad it rocks....
But with the TGL driver Q3test locks occasionally and sometimes doesnt even start (locks at white screen just before menu)
After uninstalling and reinstalling several times to no avail. I enabled 32bit z buffer in the options on PD. Q3 seems alot more stable now but "choppier" if thats the right word to describe it? The frame rate is still nice and high (tho timedemo was lower) but it just seems like there is some "hesitancy" when screaming around the levels and that doesn't make for easy aiming?
Anybody know exactly what diff. 32 bit z buffer makes and if its worth it?
Anybody had the same problem with Q3test and TGL driver?
I have no IRQ conflicts, the G400 is on IRQ 11 and everything else seems to be ok?
Thanks in advance for any replys....

I've had a few issues as well . My experience with the game running at lower fps at some points is that those points use many more textures and that slows the card down , eg , where there is multiple players with explosions on screen in large areas. The same effect displays if you increase the textures quality generally in the game options--lower fps.
As well the demo--I don't play the test itself--will freeze after I change several game options , back and forth , several times--maybe the demo , maybe the card driver.
Finally , the demo fps reported in published tests are not easily reproduced here without disabling features and even then I find the fps vary significantly with the weather and the Japanese Yen exchange rate.

I conclude that while HL is by and large fixed by the current ICD --there are still decal issues but the look and speed is very fine--the driver for Quake 3 needs massive improvement in the area of texture management.

Frankly I hope that Matrox uses the period up to the release of its next adapter to sort this Ogl crap out because I will not go thru it again .

      Damn!
32 bit z buffer wasn't the cause after all!
It still crashes, but just doesn't seem to be as often.........
      Anyone have any ideas?

Troop: I haven't had the demo lock on me..... but having said that if it gets as far as running then the demo doesn't take long and it normally locks a few minutes into the game.
And yes before anyone asks I have tried it at standard clock speeds aswell. I never o/c higher than 115% anyway.
