  • Almost burned my G400 !!!!!

I really like to o/c and get the MAX performance out of my system but I think I o/c my G400 a little to much...

It seems that dual-head put a little stress on the G400, I usually o/c my card to %120 and have no problems... that's without dual-head. Yesterday I switch to dual-head because I was going to write a little utility for my LAN with MFC and so I find the dual-head very helpful I can run the debugger in a different screen for example... After a while I took a brake and played Dungeon Keeper 2. After about 30 min of playing I noticed the mouse is not moving smoothly and I saw artifacts on the second screen (which was not in use), shortly after came a total freeze... I restarted the computer and heard win98 loading but didn't see anything onscreen... I waited 2 min turned on the computer and the computer displayed everything until it entered 1024x768x32 windows res then I didn't see a thing.... I waited 10 min with the computer shut down, turned it on and everthing worked fine. Now I lowered the o/c rate to %115 and will stay with this settings, I advise allo/c to do the same....

      i have a question,

WHY DO U NEED TO KEEP IT ON 120%?

WTF do u do it people, what is the point, especially when u r in windows?
All hardcore overclockers, and regular ones, do not keep their cards on more than reg when it is not needed!

and i don't think u burned your card, and it is pretty hard to burn anything by only making your core/mem speeds higher, you would've burned it if the voltage would've got up, so calm down

leaving it o/c when I'm in windows isn't a problem coz it doesn't stress the card anyway so thats why I leave it %120 all the time its easier...

I know I didn't burn it yet, The G400 memory chips ran too hot and thats why I waited 10 min until they'll cool down...

Anyway it didn't happen when I was in windows it happend when playing a 3D game and leaving dual-mode on.

About cooling - I have ap pentium fun attached to the core heatsink, but the problem wasn't the core it was the memory (hense the artifacts)

check this link out! it tells what I did
            http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/Forum5/HTML/004772.html

also, my project today was to take an old heatsink and "slice" it into 2" x 1" strips and fragtape them to my mem chips on my g400 (two per heatsink on both sides of card) when my Tennmax bga "with push pins" comes in I'll be doing some better o/c'ing

DuRaNgO, sound like what I'm thinking about doing. My card occasionally overheats too, and I'm pretty sure it's the memory, not the core that's at fault. BTW- It's a Max, and I can get it as high as 169 core, but the resulting increase in memory speeds (~225Mhz) causes it to get unstable pretty quickly.
