Anyone know how to set refresh rates in good 'ole DOS?

Matrox have a file called vbe1.zip
    The Readme says:

"These settings will copy your current Windows refresh rates
and use them in Dos applications.

Once you have set the refresh rate in Windows, place
    VBETSR.COM & VBESETUP.EXE in the autoexec.bat.

The proper form in your autoexec.bat is:

set mga=[the area where the mga.inf is located]
    c:\ [directory] \vbetsr.com
    c:\ [directory] \vbesetup.exe"

Only problem is there ain't no file called mga.inf anywhere !?

60 Hz, er, hurts (Its a G400 BTW)

You can create one with mgamon.exe.

With the G400 new BIOS, it simply read the info that your monitro is sending... I do not even think that you can play with these settings as you used to be able with the old mga.mon...

Ahhh. I use BNC so there's no way the G400's getting any data back from the monitor. But the screen is installed in windows so why not use the .inf instead?

Someone please please (that's with the cherry on top ) tell me how to set refresh rates in DOS! I cant believe Matrox just forgot about it, did they?! Using 60Hz for several hours is not good

What you are looking for is probably the file Matrox GraphicsINSTALL.inf in the C:\Windows\INF\Other directory ???

You could try it at least

hmmm nice idea. The file doesn't seem to contain any refresh rate data though, but I'll give it a go anyway. Fairly major operation so back in a bit..and just to make things really intersting my USB keyboard doesn't work in DOS!

Back to good old days of editing Autoexec.bat!
