  • HAIG !,ANT ! MURCers! Transformation & Lighting with G400 possible or not ?

    ZIFF-DAVIS says G400 can do T&L but ???

I made some tests with ZIFF-DAVIS 3Dwinbench99 v1.2 & was wery impressed with final result :1050 @1024x768x16 16 bit zbf default ziff davis settings.

One of the lasts tests was TRANSFORMATION & LIGHTING (63.2fps) & TRANSFORMATION (126 fps) I thought that only G-Force256 from NIVIDIA can do that, so i wondering if its true that G400 can do it too ...besides I got this message NULL DEVICE ON MATROX MILLENIUM G400 USED....what is NULL DEVICE & is that Hardware accelerated or not ??

Tehre was some incorrect tests with : PERSPECTIVE CORRECT ALPHA ; PERSPECTIVE CORRECT COLOR ; PERSPECTIVE CORRECT SPECULAR ; PERSPECTIVE CORRECT FOG

Not Capable : MipMap LOD Bias ; Mirror Texture Addresing ; Z-Bias

    OVERALL result @ 1024x768x32 32 bit zbf =789

is taht good or not ?

    bye

    Hi Borg,

None of our cards support T & L.

AFAIK, Winbench 2000 and 3D Mark 2000 are the only apps which will actually measure T & L properly. These 2 apps aren't available yet.

The only thing I can think og is that 3D Winbench 99 is testing T & L but based off of your CPU and not the graphic card itself.

      That's OK Haig...

I'd rather they support T&A anyways... Heh-heh... (Just kiddin guys and gals)

That and a slew of other properties are probably waiting in the background for the next big hush-hush project... The G2000 (for the New Millenium of course!!! )

I'm starting to think that Ziff-Davis should change their name to Sniff-Davis in lieu of all the cocaine they appear to be pumping up their nose. This is the 3rd or 4th very questionable thing I've seen quoted from them. I was under the impression you need a hardware engine to do T&L, as T&L has been available in high end video products used in Hollywood computer graphics for a while now. I didn't think you could do T&L in "software" using only the CPU. But I've been wrong before so don't quote me. Unless T&L stands for tits and liquor.

Waaaaaaay back, there were rumour about a T&L add-on(!) for the G400. Are they just rumours? Heck, does the G400 even has an interface that possibly could suport such an add-on?

            Just curious..

                Hi Borg,

I wouldn't worry about this. AFAIK, T & L needs DX7 support and 3DWB99 is based on DX6. So most likely, ZD is benchmarking your CPU for T & L.

Randy - Those were just rumours.

T&L and TC are supported by DX7.
Matrox's _next_ product will have strong support for the features built into DX7.

                  Just $.02 speculation, not rumour.
