  • Is DirectX 7.0 compatible with 5.30 drivers?

I haven't yet received my G400 Max. It has been on order for 2 months. I was trying to save some cash by ordering from Buycomp, but I am beginning to think I should have just ordered direct. I have visited this forum many times and I have to admit there is a lot of useful information.
In a few of the postings I have read, it has been briefly mentioned that DirectX 7.0 is not supported by the G400 drivers. Should I load DirectX 7.0 using my current card, or should I stick with 6.1 to ensure compatibility with my new G400 Max?

    Thanks in Advanced.

I've used DirectX 7.0 for a few time, and found them a really really "cesso", how we say it in Italy.
They're too slow in 2D, loose a bunch of point in 3D, and have added a marvelous instability to my sistem.

And, that not seems to be a problem with G400 only.

        Yeah, really really cesso!

          Hi Ricardo,

          Did you say DX6.3 ?
The last one I can find is 6.1.
Could you please tell me where can I find DX6.3 ?

          Many Thanks
          Jessy.

              Hi,

Well I have instaled win98SE from the lastest Microsoft msdn cd's that we received, I don't think that's possible to download it.

I got this report from directx.cpl:

              Direct3D Version 4.06.03.0518
              DirectDraw Version 4.06.03.0518
              DirectInput Version 4.06.03.0518
              DirectPlay Version 4.06.02.0518
              DirectSound Version 4.06.03.0518

              This is not DX6.3 ?

              Regards,
              Ricardo

I think they are DirectX 6.1a, the ones that are shipped with SE.

Right here, I've heard that the DirectX 7 downloadable version are not fully developed, while the final version of 7 should be in Windows 2000.

Ya... My Gravis X-terminator doesn't also work with DX7. Go back to DX6, everything is normal!

                        Dante,

Ordered from Buycomp.com? You're right you should have ordered direct. I ordered mine from matroxonline last tuesday, paid for three day shipping, and it was in my hands on friday.

Now I just need the rest of the sytem that I ordered from MWAVE so that I can actually use it!

Hmmm...unless anyone out there can think of some way to cram a G400M into a Toshiba laptop!?!?!?

                          Hi,

After going from DX6.3 to DX7, I lost a few fps in Quake3 and had a lot of problems with my force feedback wheel. Returning to DX6.3 solved my problems.

                          Regards,
                          Ricardo
