  • EmbossBumpMapping(2-pass): 3DMark 99 MAX, G400MAX

    MURC Folks,

    I've just noticed this slight problem with 3DMark99MAX+G400MAX+PD5.30:

    Bump Mapping (Embossing, 2-Pass)
    - 32bit color, 32bit Z --> Triangular texture moving all over the place (i.e. the texture is not fully loaded/tiled across the wavy thingie).
    - 32bit color, 16bit Z --> Snowy dots random movements.
    - 16bit color, 32bit Z --> No problems.
    - 16bit color, 16bit Z --> No problems.

    I am not sure if this is the cause of overclocking the FSB to 112. My PIII-500 is running at 560 now. No problems so far. But I have this sneaky feeling that this problem is related to FSB O/C thingie.

    Can someone verify this?

    I will probably open up the case (a BIG hassle since I have so many peripherals and cables jammed to the machine) tonight after work. But I would really really really appreciate it if someone could tell me:

    baby, it ain't the oc'ed FSB, it is stinking <insert scapegoat here> that is screwing up. don't worry, just download <insert panacea>, install it, and you shall be fine.
    Thanks!!

    Hi James !

    1st: How did you become a 'MURCer' ??? Must have something to do with the new bbs-software I guess ...

    2nd: I've seen that too, I fear it's driver related ...

      Maggi,

      Thanks for the response! At least, now I don't have to unplug all my cables, take out the chassis, open it, do the jumper thingie, reconnect and close everything, and verify if I still see the weird stuff.

        JamesA:

        That emboss test works fine for me on a non-OC P2 350.

          {A Malay expression for those who don't know.}

          I guess I will have to test the thing tonight. And tonight is laundry night too..

          But just to be sure, The Rock, you are running fine at 32bit color and 32bit Z with EmbossBumpMapping 2-pass, and PowerDesk 5.30?!

          Alright.

          Me go home after work and check.

              Hey SteveC,

              Here's the link:

              Licorice is American.

              Liquorice is for the rest of the British English speaking world.

                  Hi there!

                  What I have noticed about the Embossed bump mapping quality tests is that in the 1 pass the colours of the wood surface are awful compared to the ones in 3 and 2 pass. Is this normal?

                    No, that's OK - I believe other cards (TNT2) do that too.
