  • New G400 User...question about overclocking

Ok, so I am a fairly new G400 user. I have the 32MB version. Not the Max. I have a question about overclocking. I read through several past discussions on this matter. I still have not seen a straight answer. How much can I overclock my g400 card without adding an extra cooling fan?? I downloaded the Matrox Tweak utility. Here are my system specs.

    Abit BE6 MB
    PIII 450
    128MB PC100 Ram
    Maxtor 7Gig Hard drive
    G400 32MB running at 2x
    SB Live Value
    4X4X24 HP CD Writer
    40X max CDROM
    LS-120 drive
    USR 56K internal Voice modem

need anything else?? This is the first system I have built from the ground up myself, so any imputs would be apriciated. I havnt run any bench checks on my system, but I can tell you this. I ran the timetest through Descent3. I average around 37 - 43FPS on it. with a min fps of 19 and a max FPS of around 56 or so. The game apears to run smoothly to me. I am happy with my G400. Is this typical performance or should I get more.

    Thanks,

There is no such thing as a "definate answer" when it comes to overclocking. Every chip is different, and produces different results.

Take it as high as you can until you see corruptions or have lockup problems. Then back it off a few notches.

And overclocking without cooling is not a good idea...
