  • G400 AGP 1x

    Hi all,

    I have recently purchased a G400 32 MP.
    Even though my motherboard (P2L97-S)
and the G400 supports AGP 2x it
runs only at AGP 1x. I have already
tried the registry hack to enforce
AGP 2x but that didn't have any effect.
What do I have to do, to enable AGP 2x ?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,

If the registry hack did not work you migth have previous drivers in there. so go in safe mode and remove all display adapters, then reisntall your drivers in normal mode. The reghack only works when you have one drivers installed and no traces of previous ones.

Also, make sure the registry hack is putting the setting in the right place. Sometimes, the PD registry entries don't reside in the default place.

You know, I have the same problem now.
        3DMark 99 Max tould me:
        3D Accelerator:

        Driver Name: G400DD32.DLL

          Thanks for the quick advice.....but
nothing seems to fix the problem.
          I have thourougly removed all
traces of the previous driver install
          (following the Matrox procedure given
on their homepage + running the
          uninstaller utility). Afterwards I have
          reinstalled the 5.13 drivers and
run the registry hack....still AGP 1x.
          The same procedure with the
          5.25 drivers....same problem.
          A "registry greenhorn's" question:
Where should the registry hack appear
in the registry and what should I
find in the registry. I have searched for
"agp" entries and get a whole lot of entries which don't mean anything to me.

          Thanks again,

          HeRo

I don't know for 100% sure, but you're motherboard does not support AGP 2X

And if it does support AGP 2X this will do the trick:

              Under: hkey_local machine\system\current control
set\services\class\display\0003\settings (the 0003 may be different) you'll have a few subkeys. Under the CPU one, you'll have an AGPFallBAck setting. Add a AGPflags and the settings are as follows:
-2 - Up to 4x (No AGP Test)
-1 - Up to 2x (No AGP Test)
0 - Up to 1x (No AGP Test)
              1 - Highest if test
2 - Highest if test succeed (Force AGPFallback = 1)

Dennis (let me know if it worked)

I have checked again the spec's of my
                  board (P97L-S). ASUS states that
is able to run AGP 2x, which is
also what I get from SiSoft Sandra.

Dennis1: I will try this tonight. I remember
however, that when I checked the registry entries
yesterday, AGPFallback was set to -1 already.

Maggi: What is the FSB ? Do you ask about the
                  BIOS Version ? I have never flashed it;
it is the original BIOS that came with
the board. I think it is
AWARD P2L97-S ACPI BIOS Version 1001. 04/20/98, but I have to check that.

                    Hi all,

just a final comment on this thread.
My card is running on AGP 2x now.
Of course the solution was simple
(which doesn't mean that I could ever
                    have thought of it ).
The registry hack puts the AGPFallback
by default to the 0000 section which doesn't
coincide with my G400 (it is 0001).
I just want to put ths information here so that it might be usefull for someone else.

Thanks again for all the very helpful
                    advise.

Smirnoff, that is exactly what my 3dmark informs me as well. Did you ever find out why it does that and were you able to fix it?
