    Mandrake 6.1 installation went without a hitch. You all were right about X3.3.5 supporting the G400. Now I've just got to start playing around with some apps.

    yeah, i've got linux working too. except that X comes up in 320x200 every time and my promise ultra66 card is giving problems too. other than that, linux is working great.

      I reran Xconfigurator and removed all screenmodes except 1024x76x32bit. Now it starts up in that mode all the time.

        Just in case you want the option to switch between resolutions, you could leave in 32 bit entries for all the resolutions you might need, with the default one being first. You can then switch between res's on the fly, using the CTRL-SHIFT-plus or CTRL-SHIFT-minus key combos.
