This thing looks and plays great on the G400 even at 1024x768x32bit with everything set to high.

I can only get it "fluid" @800x600 32bit
I wonder if the patch for the 3dfx version is different than the Newer full?

When are we playing? look at my post in the Game board...

I'm doing 41 fps average, 91 max, 27 min on most maps with 4 bots shooting it out, running 1024x768x32 with everything maxed out, on a P3-450~556 and tons of RAM.

This thing just became my second fave FPS. hell, I might even put in 5.25 drivers again sicne I doubt I'll be caring if Q3A runs like crap anymore with them.

Ok, so I got the patch (FINALLY) last night and fired it up:
              1024x768x32bit, all details - sluggish.

              1024x768x16bit, all details - better

1024x768x16bit, medium world detail, rest same - Faster still... almost V2 SLI speed.

800x600x16bit, all details - woo hoo!

I'll do more testing tonight, but here are my thoughts:

              - It looks better on the G400 over the V2, no question.

              - The medium world setting is great for network play - it really speeds things up. I can live without the pitted details on the wire mesh if it means I can frag people fster. :-)

              - 32bit is darker than 16bit. 32bit and 16bit have almost no effect when the world details are set to medium. Crank it down a notch for the speed boost.

              - 1280x1024x32bit REFUSES to run fullscreen. 1152x864x32bit works fine. Anyone know why? I already tried changing the z-buffer settings and the triple buffering settings - no go.

              - The MOTION BLUR of the V2 is a hardware problem with the Voodoo2 chipset. It was fixed on the Voodoo3, in case anyone was wondering. This is as per Mark Rein, who was on the UT IRC channel last night. There is no bluring on the G400.

If you want to play this game fast, crank the resolution down to 800x600, set world and player details to medium, and leave it in 16bit. NEVER turn off the high-detail textures - the game looks like crap if you do, and you don't get much of a speed boost over just cranking the detail level down to medium.

This game is almost as fast as the V2 SLI rig in D3D, and looks incredible. If you're a gamer, feel confident that your G400 MAX can handle UT and hang with the Voodoo people out there.

Well, I cant get smooth play at 1024X768@32bit with everything on. at 16 bit colour its fine, but 32 seems to kill it (and make it darker).

I tried overclocking to 672 on my P3 and clocking the G400 to 220Mhz memory with powerstrip, and still not as fast as SLI, and it crashes pretty damn fast.

Im I mising something here? I was using the 3dfx demo, I uninstalled that, and installed the new demo. Playing under D3D with all standard settings except for the ones under preferences/other.

Also, how do you get your fps on it?

Ali (who should do a sig sometime)

I get 30 fps average (smooth gameplay) at 1024x68x32 IF I disable detail textures. In gameplay there isn´t much time to stare at the walls, though...

I'm running NT4 and getting 20fps average. High is about 25fps. This is all under DirectX 5 at 640x480x32bpp. Damn crappy NT Matrox drivers...oh well, it's playable.

Considering UT is a Dx 7.0 game, I think it´s remarkable you managed to get it running in NT

How about some meaningful numbers: Run the demo from this web page: http://www.voodooextreme.com/reverend/Main.html

On my G400MAX@160/PIII@500/128MB I get the following numbers: 32bit/High World Detail/High Actor Detail versus 16bit:

                          32/H/H 16/H/H
                          1024 19.54 23.5
                          800 22.94 24.6
                          640 22.83 25.03

The readme for the demo has a VooDoo3@180/PIII@620 at 16/H/H doing around 27fps. I would guess that 120 more MHz might put the G400MAX at the same level. Plus the game is glide based so I guess I shouldn't complain...

But if systems as decked out as these can't even break 30fps average in a demo with as many slow spots as this...
