  • My voodoo2 is faster then my g400?

    I wonder if a voodoo2 should be faster than a g400??
Is it somebody who has the same problem.
    I have a Pentium Celeron 366, 64Mb RAM, g400.

Hmm, I thought that the voodoo2 would be slower considering it weighs more with all that silicon on it. I might borrow a voodoo2 and see if it does move faster when I throw it compared to the MAX. hey - if you overclock the fan on the g400 max enough, maybe it could take off! Something for the weekend....

Hey, if both cards have fans, stick them in the bath tub and see which one propells itself through water the best.

Voodoo2 SLI is faster in Half-life, but thats all.

Also faster if you have a slow system, but if you have a slow system you shouldnt have bought a G400.

I still think my Voodoo 1 is faster than my G400, but that's all psychological.

Here's some Q2 scores that'll blow your dresses up

                  (Crusher)
                  cards: G400Max/Obsidian2 X-24
                  600x460: 42.6fps/52.0fps
                  800x600: 43.5fps/51.0fps
                  1028x768: 42.1fps/44.8fps
                  1600x1200:31.5fps/ N/A

                  (timedemo 1)
                  cards: G400Max/Obsidian2 X-24
                  600x400: 90.4fps/131.5fps
                  800x600: 89.2fps/112.6fps
                  1024x768: 78.8fps/76.6fps
                  1600x1200:40.3fps/ N/A

The G400 catches the V2 SLI card at 1028x768. But that's as high a resolution as V2 can handle. I don't play much at resolutions lower than 1024x768 anymore.

Before my Max, I had a Voodoo2 Pure3D II card from canopus, and a Spectra TNT 2k5 also from canopus.

I never used my TNT card in 3d games. Ever. And I play a LOT of games. The voodoo2 smoked the TNT in all my games at 640-800 which where the res'es I used with my old 14" monitor.

I got flamed from posting this in a 3dfx newsgroup so.... fortunately this is Matrox, and you don't care anything right?

With current drivers, I'd have to say yes and no. (I'm a max owner n user, so STFU in advance to flamers)

First off, voodoo anything cannot touch g400 in image size n quality (cough 32bit 16x12)

And if you try anything besides the magic Q games [hl q2 q3test ...notice the order I put them in ;] v2 will be slower, maybe much slower for things that matter.

I do agree that for lower resolutions and slower machines the voodoo boards are going to be a 'better' option. The g400 likes to have a good supply from your cpu. I for one, can actually play ActionQ2 @1600x1200 [AHL is still a joke, play CS] and *do very well* if not *better* than before with my old V2 going @640x480 on a C450.
