  • "Ever send e-mail to Matrox" ----the 2nd part

Well, if you read my topic on 09-14-1999 13:32, than you would know what I am talking about. If not, go read it before reading the following ^_^

Remember I said that I send the message to Matrox concerning my G400 problem? Well, I send the message to two places, Matrox Asia and Matrox in Canada. Now Matrox Canada replied to my message yesterday.

    Here is the message:

    [
The following are suggestions to clear up lock-ups/defects-in-display that
may be caused by an agp conflict between the motherboard and the agp video
    card:

Make sure you are using the latest full driver and bios versions available
on our web site (www.matrox.com/mga). The bios update must be done from
pure dos mode, and uninstall any previous versions of drivers before
    installing new versions.

Update your mother board bios and/or install the agp drivers for your
motherboard. Check both the motherboard manufacturer's website and the
motherboard chipset manufacturer's website for updates.

Make sure the video card has an IRQ and that the IRQ is not being shared by
another device. You can manually assign an IRQ to your video card with the
"assign IRQ to VGA" option in your motherboard bios.

Double click on my computer, double click on the c drive, double click on
program files, double click on Matrox PowerDesk, double click on agpflags0
to set the card to use the agp 1x standard, it will edit the registry,
click ok, reboot. You can later use agpflags1 to switch back to agp 2x if
agp drivers or a bios update become available for your motherboard that fix
    the problems.

Go into the Matrox Display Properties / settings / advanced and uncheck all
of the performance functions. Reboot and recheck them one by one (you will
have to reboot after re-enabling each one) to see which feature is causing
the conflict. If you can't get into windows normal mode you can go into
safe mode, go to start / run and type regedit, go to hkey_local_machine /
software / matrox / PowerDesk / current settings / and set busmastering to
    0. That should allow you to get to normal mode.

Go into your mother board bios and disable any "VGA frame buffer", "full
frame buffer", and/or "primary frame buffer".

Go into your mother board bios and disable "Cache Rd+CPU Wt Pipeline".

Go into your mother board bios and disable pipeline caching, or byte merging.

Go into your mother board bios and switch between using agp 1x and 2x. Try
different combinations with this option and the agpflags0/1 option listed
    above.

Go into your motherboards bios and reduce the "front end bus speed" (it may
be called something else). Reduce it down from 100 Mhz, try different
levels, and you should be able to use agp 2x as well as bus mastering.

Via chipsets (from Via's web site (www.via.com.tw), not from the
    motherboard manufacturer.)

I am quite surprised to receive such a helpful reply from Matrox in Canada. If only the guys at Matrox Asia are half as helpful......

    hehheh.. don't be fooled
It's pre-written message they send to everyone. Why else does is also have Ali chipset info too while you mentioned VIA?
I just wonder why couldn't that information be available via WWW? So that their support would seem active? (you got a response didn't you..)

Yeah and one of the advices on how to solve the non working agp x2 problem was:don't use agp x2 and switch to agp x1 until bios upgrades are there.Seems prewritten to me too.
