  • G400 and VIA motherboards

Is it really that G400 cannot run in AGP 2X mode with VIA motherboards?
    Is it a VIA-only problem?
Any one using BX motherboards can answer me?

I have 128MB of RAM installed, but it even does like that with only 64MB RAM in the unit. For additional system configuration information check out my homepage located in my profile.

I guess the lack of mem causes that. Why should it work using aperture of 256MB in a first place if you don't have that much main mem?
But it's a poor design, since it should revert to 128MB or something else that would make sense.

i have via chipset and 128 megs ram-only way to get 2x on is when i set aperture to 128-
will not let me past that in bios.anything under 128 reverts back to 1x.

I have an EPoX EP-MVP3G motherboard, based on the VIA chipset, and I have no problems with running my G400 32MB DH, o/c to 150/200, in 2X DiME mode AGP as long as my AGP aperture is not set above 128MB. For some reason when I set the AGP aperture to 256MB it reverts to 1X AGP.

You didn't mention the amount of RAM you have.

I have a Epox MVP3G-M, It ran x2 with 128 and 256 meg installed with my G400. I only have my apeture set at 64 meg. I haven't notice any difference except in 3DMark scores(AGP texturing) with it set to 128meg. My old G200 only ran x1 with this board, I never did any of the registry hacks to try to enable it.
