  • Ever send e-mail to Matrox? Give it a try

I e-mailed Matrox about the G400 not able to run in AGP 2X mode, here is the original mail...

    > I am currently using the following config:
    > Pentium III 500
    > Tekram P6PRO A+ motherboard (VIA chips)
    > 128 SD Ram
    > Matrox Mill G400 32Mb Single head
    > 6.4GB Quantum Hardisk
    >
    > I've had the problem of the screen becoming grabbled and
    > unreadable after I installed the graphics card with the initial
    > driver (version 5.12) I found that when I enabled the AGP 2X
    > mode in my bios, my screen becomes unreadable in Windows
    > 98. Then, I downloaded your newest driver (version 5.25), the
    > problem is solved. However, when I use WCPUID to check my
    > system status, I found that I am currently using AGP 1X mode.
    > That means the new driver automatically disabled my AGP 2X
    > mode.
    > Why can't I use my G400 card in AGP 2X mode?
    > Is it because of my motherboard (VIA)?
    > or is it because of the G400?
    > I would be grateful if you could give me an answer ASAP
    > my email address is:

    And this is the reply

    Dear Sir,
Since your program may not be support all of the AGP Graphic Cards (or
Display Drivers), you should try to use other program to compare the result.

By default, the display driver should set to the maximum transfer mode.
eg, it should set to AGP2X if your mainboard chipsets support AGP2X

Now, I must say that I really appreciate the efficiency of those guys at Matrox. I sent the mail in the morning and got the reply in the afternoon! What I do NOT appreciate is that whoever answers my e-mail haven't answered my question at all!!!

When I sent a question to tech support, the reply came back in a couple of days. They reply asked 5 questions to clarify my system configuration. Every single one of those questions was answered in the original email. I ended up fixing the problem myself, but I still haven't heard back from them...

Do they use a Babelfish to translate the original re-mails or what?? very strange English... Haig, which babelfish do you use??

Oh, btw, sending an email to E-Tech gives you such strange ones back as well.. Not answering your questions, and in very strange English. E-Tech is Taiwanese, so that's normal to get Taiwan English back... could this be Canadian English??

          Hi Jorden,

I only worry about emails and calls coming into HQ in Canada.

OK, try sending an email to PCChips or, for that matter, almost ANY taiwanese company. It's just not worth them replying for they don't actually understand your email in the first place.
Always send to a US or UK address no matter where in the world you are....

              Cheers,

PS: Some or all of the above message may be wrong, or, just as likely, correct. Depends on what mood I'm in. And what you know. ;¬)

                  SteveC,

Actually, I sent an email to SiS once and they replied to me. Of course it was forwarded to the ends of the earth and back before my message reached someone with the answer.

Consider yourlselves lucky. I emailed them around january with some questions about the mystique and some issues I had with gamma correction in several of my programs and games. I didn't hear back in about 2 weeks, so I emailed again. A duplicate of the email I sent off. 2 weeks later I STILL hadn't recieved a response so I gave up.

5, count them, 5 months later I recieved an email back telling me that my request for technical support had expired! WHAT WHAT WHAT? How the heck is that supposed to help? I dismissed it as I had already bought another card, the Marvel and was quite satisfied. 2 days later I got an email from tech support with information on how to reinsert my mystique to solve a problem with the video occasionally blacking out. I about shot myslef.

Well, at least The European centre of Mitac can do strange English as well...

Requested something on my second monitor yesterday and got this reply in today:

                      "Dear Mr. Jorden v.d.Elst,

For the monitor Mitac 1555GD is no friver available.
We recommand to use the standard SVGA driver from Win9x.
                      Technical specs:
                      Horizontal synchronisation: 30KHz -54KHz
                      Vertical synchronisation: 50Hz - 90Hz.
                      Recommanded resolution: 800 x 600

                      Kind Regards,
