  • Marvel G400

    I'm not sure if this is old news by now (I haven't been reading the forums as much as before, forgive me ) but it looks like we have proof from Matrox that the G400 Marvel exists.

    From the Install.inf file of Powerdesk 5.21.017:

    Str0="Matrox G200 Multi-Monitor"
    Str1="Matrox G400 AGP"
    Str2="Matrox MGA-G100 AGP"
    Str3="Matrox MGA-G200 AGP"
    Str4="Matrox Marvel G200 AGP"
    Str5="Matrox Marvel G200 PCI"
    Str6="Matrox Marvel G400 AGP"
    Str7="Matrox Millennium G100 AGP"
    Str8="Matrox Millennium G200 AGP"
    Str9="Matrox Millennium G200 LE AGP"
    Str10="Matrox Millennium G200 SD AGP"
    Str11="Matrox Millennium G200 SD PCI"
    Str12="Matrox Millennium G250 AGP"
    Str13="Matrox Millennium G250 LE AGP"
    Str14="Matrox Millennium G400"
    Str15="Matrox Millennium G400 Dual Head"
    Str16="Matrox Millennium G400 Dual Head Max"
    Str17="Matrox Mystique G200 AGP"
    Str18="Matrox Mystique G200 Video AGP"
    Str19="Matrox Productiva G100 AGP"
    Str20="Matrox Productiva G100 Multi-Monitor"

      Interesting...

      Does any one with a G400max show the
      Str16="Matrox Millennium G400 Dual Head Max"
      in their display properties?

      Mine just says...
      Str15="Matrox Millennium G400 Dual Head"
      But the install.inf seems to suggest it show show as a Max.

        Ignore the inf - the driver doesn't care if it's a MAX or not. Always install the normal driver. If you want to check if the card's a MAX look in the 'information' tab in the PowerDesk.

          I have a MAX and it still showed up as a Matrox Millennium G400 Dual Head - English. So I used PCILIST.EXE to figure out what my card had for vendor/device/subsystem IDs and edited 5.21's Install.inf so that those values mapped to Str16. After reinstalling Powerdesk 5.21, now it says Matrox Millennium G400 Dual Head Max - English.

          Of course, it has always shown itself as a MAX in the Display Properties | Advanced | Information tab as SteveC said.

          Getting back to the G400 Marvel, it will definitely be interesting to see what flavor of G400 they will base it on. Will it have Dual Head? 16 MB or 32 MB? SDRAM or SGRAM? What speed graphics, memory, and RAMDAC? I have been betting since the beginning that it would probably have 32 MB SGRAM and Dual Head, but probably non-MAX speeds. That's why I picked up the MAX and a Rainbow Runner G-Series, which seem to work fine even with PD 5.21 (despite Matrox's warnings).
