  • G400 New Life!!! But...

After getting a mixed response from other users I decided to try the G400 Max again.

Did a clean install, and forced the card to AGP 1x via regedit, had to modify the edit to point to card 0001; it's been working fine for hours now!

Everything seems fine but...,I did notice the following...

    1) Matrox DVD plays dark on PC monitor, adjusting the brightness leaves it washed out.

    2) DVD MAX on TV after tweaking is great!

    3) Matrox seems to force the use of 75Hz refresh rates, any other card allows my monitor to run over 100Hz, but the matrox drivers leave little options but 75. I can adjust each mode manually but it is a long process going from 75 to 100 1 Hz at a time.

    4) Record 3d Mark score set...
5630 at 1024x768x16 , seems to slow as I up the refresh rate. Check out FS98, the frame counter blows past its limit!

    5) Desktop icons seems to overlay each other often. Playing with the grid had no effect.

It would be nice to turn off alot of the powerdesk features such a limiting the refresh options and icon placement, is that possible?

If anyone has any comments or suggestions to solve the above, thanks in advance!

What I did was go to the Registry right here
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\Display\0000\MODES\
There will be all the display setting. 16bit 32, and so one. choose the settings that you use and enter the refresh rate that you want for each one in each setting.
I have this one set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\Display\0000\MODES\16\1024,768 @=100 for 100Hz/ then reboot and it will be there.

      1. Right click Matrox Quickdesk Icon in tray
      2. Select Display Properties
      3. Select Advanced
      4. Select Monitor Settings
      5. Select customizations from the Matrox List
      6. Scoll down and click through until you find your monitor, select it and apply the settings.
      7. If your monitor is not in the list then if you have your manual you can always create a custom monitor file after step 4. You can also contact the manufacturer, identifiable from the FCC ID code, and request a monitor file. I had to do this to identy my monitor as the brand is MegaImage and through this process I was able to contact Samsung and they sent me the updated W9X file and told me to use the settings for the Samsung Synchmaster 17GL. A little work may be required but the payoff is worth it.
