  • Should I buy a g400 max for this system?

See topic: I'm trying to decide whether or not it's smart to buy one, considering the 'scalability'.

[I will use it for quake2 and 3d design and 2d photoshop etc.]

    DUAL p2400, 256 mb, asus p2b.
So what really is my question: What is the 'break even processor' and does it help to have dual processors or not?

    Thanks,
    Ruurd Boeke

        hey thanks spider.

I use NT ofcourse for the dual system.. I think that the matrox is a good choice.. I actually lied.. I use an accelEclipse 32mb for the serious 3d stuff.. =]

Still would be nice to use the matrox for quake and photoshop.. I think the dual system should do better then a single p3 550 or so.. so I should get good fps on q2.

        thanks!

            Hi !

depend..U must knowe that having two P400 it doesent mean that u have a POWER like 800mhz processor...it actualy works on WIN NT system much better then with win95 or 98 .

So if u use win95/98 u should take PIII500 or 550 because it will give more power then 2 PII@400 .

about Vcards.. ofcourse I will advise you for Matrox MILL-G400MAX or atleast Matrox MILL-G400 SingleHead 32 mb if u dont nead TV or 2 monitors running in same time, but all TNT2 or UTNT2 are good choice to..if u nead realy good image & colors then G400 is much better choice .

            In name performance ...well G400 & G400MAX are KINGS in D3D @ HIGH RES 1024x768 x32 and above...its FASTER then TNT2/UTNT2 in 32 bit useing D3D.

OPENGL...he !...thats good but TNT2/UTNT2 are a litle faster then G400/G400MAX...not much in some case eaven not.. but stil are..U will not notice that in Q2 or Q3 @1024x768x32 in other 3D aplications & programs I dont knowe.

If u use 3d design u should take 32mbVcards G400/G400MAX or TNT2/UTNT2 doesent mater..they must be 32mb (bether HIGH TEXTURE PERFORMANCE)...

look around this SITE about G400/G400MAX see what kind of trouble it have.. go to www.rivarave.com & do the same thing..then deside..the coice is yours ...

            I tryed some TNT2 & UTNT2 cards..but...I like G400 much better..performance..fast the same..VISUAL MUCH MUCH BETTER,COLORS eather STABILITY, better drivers for G400

            bye !
