  • Yahoo...speed problems solved!

It rurns out my poor performance with D3D games was the result of one of the oldest no-no's in the book: I changed two sets of drivers at one time. Something in the Aureal ref 2035 drivers does not agree with D3D games, or perhaps a memory leak of some sort, because it didn't happen right away, and required a reboot to fix. I went back to an older set of drivers (2015 was all I had on my HD)...and things are much better. AvP 1024x768 32 bit looks great and plays silky smooth. Freespace 2 is about on par with my V2, but I think that's more due to my processor than anything.
Interestingly, my 3dMark scores actually went down. So much for benchmarks
Sooo...my apologies for doubting the G400 (although I still get the occasional lockup).
Does anyone have a clue where I can get a more recent set of Aureal ref drivers without getting the 2035's? The 2015's still have all kinds of cracking and popping.

I think the only other drivers you can get are 2030 which I wouldn't touch. They cause more problems than they fix. eg games crash to desktop.

Anyway, I am running 2035 and G400 and everything is running fine. I already had the A3D in my system and installed with 2035 before I got the G400. So, have you tried installing 2035 again, then rebooting, then reinstall the G400 drivers?

Gool luck, I know how damn annoying those crackles are ...

I'm going to try that..maybe not anytime soon tho, I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow
The 2035 drivers I downloaded were the update set, so I'll grab the full set and try that. For the meantime, I'll deal with the crackles. Much better than dealing with crappy framerates
