  • there's a new powerstrip as of 8-14-99

I have been using it and checking it with G4set and it seems to be working right this time. This is what it says:2.51 - 08/14/99
Upg Validated G400 support. relaxed timings
Revised 3dfx, Intel, Matrox, S3, NVidia, Rendition VClk
    Beefed up Blade3D support
    Fixed up Voodoo Graphics gamma
    Added Oxygen support
    Added sync-on-green for Matrox & 3Dlabs
Added prelimary i810, SiS620 and VIA MVP4 support
Restored SiS6326 VCLK and MCLK support
Switched MGA D3D switches to support PD5
Added Desktop support for DX modes
    2.51 - 06/24/99
    Validated Windows 2000 Beta3 RC1 support
Added preliminary i752 and G400 support
Revised Intel and MGA VClk routines
    Fixed up TNT clock support
Added V3 custom refresh rates at up to 2046x1536
Added undocumentated support for <60Hz refresh rates
    Enabled gamma controls by default

I was able to get my memory to 204 on my vanilla with a pentium fan on the heatsink before tearing started and ran 3Dmark99 max and got 4608 which was a big improvement. Finally something other than G200clk. good luck and don't blame me if it doesn't work

Please just make a BIOS crash disk before you start messing with it

I won't be trying it personaly. I'll let everyone else risk their cards this time, after the last PS ate my biod

There are better ways to o/c anyway...a single slider like PS has gives you very little control on your overclocking.

I hear ya Kruzin. I already made a bios backup disk. I'm always a little worried about powerstrip but it appears to work correctly this time.

What's the latest impression on their Performance Tuner? They are up to build 12 now, but i'm a little nervous about trying it.

I'm going to wait until my freezing problem is sorted out at least (see thread "G400 32MB DH, random freezing in 3D").

Someone reminded me of overclocking so I just tried both PS/GX and g200clk on my MAX.

PS/GX seems to work okay for me. However it seems to use a different scheme for programming the G400 registers than g200clk.
I got messed up when I tried PS/GX together with g200clk. My graphics clock seemed to be programmed for 270, not good.
By itself PS/GX worked okay but the slider interface is not very accurate and it lacks some settings you can achieve using g200clk. Using PS/GX it seems close to impossible to reach a graphics clock > 150, because if you try PS/GX will program the memory clock for 225+, which is > 12% out of spec.

G200clk (/1) works okay up to a PLL clock of 309. When I go for 310 or higher the display gets messed up. No corruption (I'm sure my MAX could take a lot more), but it looks like the display buffer is interpreted in a different way. Odd.
It appears that programming of the divisors (/3) is not supported for the MAX, so 154/206 was the best I got from g200clk.

So far it looks like neither of the two programs are able to offer me what I would like, let's say 166/220.

          Comments appreciated.

Scytale-I just tested the new powerstrip and moved the memory slider to 220 and the core which moves with it went to 165. That's pretty close to what you wanted. The old powerstrip really messed with my system but they say it's been cured with this version and I can tell a huge improvement. When I overclocked before I wouldn't even get a performance increase and now I do and When I check it with G4set it's correct and when you set it back to default it goes back. I don't have a max so I wasn't about to apply that 220 setting but my vanilla is very stable at around 203. Good luck.

Great, I'll try the updated version. Mine only gives 165/250, I think my memory chips will go popcorn on me when I try that setting.

Matrox and Entech Taiwan proudly present... the Ultra MAX!

Yes, this version works great! 165/220 works like a charm. I checked using G4set. I get a -very linear- 10% increase in performance at this speed (on a P2@4x112, AGP1X).

Best thing is, now I have my on the fly gamma correction back

                Thanks for posting Kookstick!
