Is Max overkill for PII 333 w/256mb ram?

I have a G400Max on order from Matrox store and I am very sick of waiting for it. I have dual PII 333's on Tyan mb with 256mb(non pc100) of ram, two Cheetach scsi hd's, running dual partition of NT and 98. View Sonic P815 21' monitor at 1600X1200 is what I use for display. I do graphic design for living and plays games occasionly. I am more interested at the 2d performance and dual display feature of g400. Will I see significant increase on performance with max instead of plain g400 32mb? Thanks for the opinions.

The RAMDAC of the MAX makes it look a little sharper on large monitors, but the regular G400 is still outstanding. If you're not worried about every last FPS in games, I'd go for one of the regular models...

On the matrox website, they say the bare minimum for the max is 300MHz P2. Recommended is 500MHz P3. You probably won't notice any difference in 3D games with the max and that processor. If you want to get super high res and refresh in 2D (and regular g400's 2048x1536x32@70Hz isn't good enough ), then it's worth it.

Kruzin and Andrew, Thank you for replying. From what I found out at Matrox site. 2d performance is identical up to 1600X1200 for both g400 and g400max. Anything higher than 1600X1200 my old eyes can't see it anyway..

I am going to change my order to G400DH 32mb Monday. The monitor(Optiquest V95 19') I ordered for the second display just arrived this afternoon and I just can't wait any longer to try the dual-display for my graphic work. My friend, who's a MAC-head, braggs about his dual display for the last three years. It's time to shut him up..
