  • G400 vs. Voodoo3000

    I run Descent3 at 800*600 with a G400 32MB DH and a Voodoo3000.

    Problems with the G400:
    Slow framerate.
After 5-20min lockup, card was very hot, maybe a temperature problem.

    Voodoo 3000
In Glide mode the framerate was 25% about D3D !
The Vodoo3000 runs fine, no problems no lockup and faster !
    G400 sucks, wait for G400MAX !!

    Testsystem:
    Asus P2B-F
    PII-450
    192MB
    Windows 98SE

    Ciao,

My G400 works fine so it sounds like either a dodgy card or a badly vented case. Have you tried running with the case off and see if it runs longer.
If it runs okay try adding a fan to the card

The game is either crap or your card is knackered. Try a different game.

My G400 is great. The MAX is generally only faster at higher resolutions.

Have you checked if you uninstalled the V3000 drivers properly before you installed the G400 ones? There might be remnants of the Voodoo that is killing the G400.

Of course, this probably would not fix your framerate problem for the G400 vis a vis Voodoo3000, but it might solve your stability problems (which may be heat related also).

OK.. Ok.. I am getting a little vague and dodgy here. Loong day.

          Well guys,
I have been running descent3 with a v3000(or whatsoever), I think it is fair to say if the GeeMAX sucks, then the V3 blows.

The game itself is very geometry intenseive, so I guess that unless next gen card with h/w geometry setup engine is incorporated, there could hardly be fluid framerates.

Tylau stick your Voodoo3 where the sun don't shine.
Proper88 have you tried any of the suggestions about cooloing and uninstalling.

My V3 is actually received what is needs, that is, twin cooler fans, a back side heat sink and clocked at 200MHZ. I really got some luck with this one.

BTW, I am invetigating the us epeltier, but too bad its reliability got me backing off.
