  • 5.13.021 drivers benchmark!!

Hi, I saw the following on iXBT hardware:

    Another Riddle from Matrox...
In the near future Matrox is planning to release ICD OpenGL driver version 5.13.021 for G400. We were very lucky to have a brilliant chance to try the beta version of this driver with Matrox Millennium G400 32MB in the system on Intel Pentium III 500MHz processor. The table below contains the results achieved in Quake 2 massive1.dm2 demo:

    G400, ICD OpenGL 5.13.021 G400, ICD OpenGL 5.13.020 Diamond Viper V770
    640x480@16bpp 62.0 47.7 78.9
    800x600@16bpp 55.5 46.5 73.2
    1024x768@16bpp 52.2 43.9 57.5
    640x480@32bpp 61.2 47.1 77.1
    800x600@32bpp 56.3 45.9 67.5
    1024x768@32bpp 51.3 42.6 49.7

As we can see the results are just impressive! The performance gain due to the new drivers version makes about 25 percent compared to those achieved with the older version 5.13.020. So, Matrox G400 manages to catch up even with nVidia Riva TNT2 at 1024x768@32bpp. Of course, inspired by such cool results we decided to try this new driver with Quake 3 as well. We won't overload you with numbers, because strange as it might seem, but G400 performed with the new drivers at the same level as with the old ones. We were really surprised at the fact that the performance gain we saw in Quake 2 is totally absent in Quake 3. At present we can't give you any suitable explanation of this phenomenon, but we have a couple of ideas in this respect, and if they get proved, then tomorrow we'll continue the discussion. Stay tuned!

Now if we could only get our hands on beta drivers, we'd all enjoy the benefits, and problems of beta software, I just received my Developers copy of Windows Millenium, and my 3dmark max scores rose over 200+ 3dmarks. DirectX 7 is gonna kick ass, the G400 worked beautifully with it.
    PIII 700@960, Asus CUSL2, Adaptec 29160, 2x Seagate Barracuda 18.2GB, SB LIve!, 3COM 3C905TX, 256MB Muskin Rev. 2 PC133 at 2-2-2, G400MAX soon the be replaced with ?.

Where did you get Windows Millenium? And by 'developers' copy, do you mean MSDN?

      Cheers,
      Steve
