  • What memory-timings to adjust for higher MCLK?

As you probably all know, you can change a lot of memory-timings in G200clk. I wanted my G400 Vanilla to run at 'MAX-speed'(150MHz core, 200MHz memory.), but when I reach a memoryspeed of 198MHz white dots appear in games. It's not the core, because with a divider of 2 for all clocks (GLCK,MCLK and WCLK), there arent any dots at a PLL-clock of 300 (memory runs also at 150 MHz now). WHAT MEMORY TIMINGS SHOULD I CHANGE AND TO WHAT SETTINS?

    Thanx in advance,

    Tommy.

If you're getting your memory that high (within 2MHz of MAX speeds), Your PLL must be at 297 or 298. Consider yourself lucky. Most people can't get that high (many can't get over 280pll). I doubt if you'll get any more out of it...

Let me tell you the story of a little boy called Yuri. He bought a regular G400 cause he is just one fo those guys that cant wait for anything. He got home and tried g200clk and set his G400 to a PLL of 280/ All working ok. COOL he thought, and tried then 281. BAM crash/lockup/cursing/crying.

He rebooted, set to 280 again and tried benchmarks and games to see if heat was an issue. Nope, all OK. Try 281. BOOM/Crying/Suffering.

THEN he gave up and ran 280 for a couple weeks. Last night in a hissy fit he decided to try again. He started the machine, did 299 for the hell of it and IT WORKED!!!!!. After testing severall things, he has come to tyhe conclusion that g200clk farks up if you chan ge the freq. 2 times. No matter what freq I use, if I set like, 270 and then go to 280 it crashes. but I've been running 24 hours at 298 and no gfx probs, nothing. Works like a charm.

Cool huh? So try 298 and see what happens, or something higher if yer adventurous.
A computer is like sex. Your never 100% sure what your doing but when all goes well, it feels REAL good.

I can get up to 297, anything over that causes major screen corruption, Maybe Matrox next card should have the mem and core clocks independant from each other because at 297 the memory and processor on my card are still barely above warm, My old TNT2 at 175/215 ran hot as hell so I know the G400 could go way past 147MHZ which is what I think mine is running at now. Plus I only got 2 frames per second faster in Expendable. Matrox: next time use SDRAM. But I decided the only way to cure the 35FPS problem is to throw a much better processor in the machine so I am opting for a PIII 550 o/c'd to 600+ this weekend, that should help things out.
