  • G200 and OpenGL

A while ago I bought an ATI Rage 128 for my K6 system so that I could use it to play DVDs and free up my Celeron 366 with G200.

Things have been quite happy since then, I've bought lots of films and worked hard, etc.

Then I got the OpenGL final for the G200. Just now I decided to compare the ATI OpenGL with Matrox's. Let me tell you, there is OpenGL and OpenGL in this world. The ATI version sucks so badly it's frightening. Its visual quality is apalling. I'm curious to find out if anyone has compared other graphics card versions of OpenGL with Matrox's.

If you really want to see the difference, try using OpenGL screen savers, Pipes with textures switched on shows the biggest difference.

As an aside, while the ATI is great for playing DVDs, the G200 has far better colour purity, resolution and contrast.
