  • Where can I get Final Reality?!

    Folks,

This question has been bothering me for a very very long time. Where and what the heck is this demo?

I have the Matrox Tech Demo. Is it the same thing? Is there a frame rate counter somewhere in the Tech Demo?

Ant, if there is FAQ for newbies, it would be a great help.

I will go search the archive now, just in case it is there.

    JamesA.

Thanks to "<em>mr Pither</em>" in the "Final Reality AGP test scores with new drivers" thread.

just wrote a post about this

Final Reality is a benchmark program for DirectX 5, but at the same time it looks like a very cool 3D-demo. It was made by Remedy Entertainment, see www.Remedy.fi for more details.

Since FR was quite a success, the guys at Remedy went on, and formed Futuremark Corporation (www.futuremark.com), the purpose of which was to set a new standard at DirectX benchmarking with their 3DMARK 99 benchmarks.

Since both benchmarks are created by partly same people, there are much similarities. Same 3D engine and the overall "Demo" -appearance. A lot of these guys have their backround in the demo-scene of Amiga/PC, and as far as I understand, used to belong to a demo-group called Future Crew.

Both are very good benchmarks, and they look and sound absolutely gorgeus. FR is for DX5, 3D MARK 99 is for DX6 and on.

the official support for FR is discontinued, since DX5 is out-of-date nowadays.

If you are interested in what the 3D engine (MAX-FX)used in the benchmarks is capable for, see www.maxpayne.com for the new 3D-shooter game Remedy is currently developing. The site has a couple of downloadable video files from the game in action (from this year's E3 convention) which will probably blow your socks off...

      Really, really cool stuff.

      I'm rambling, back to work...

Hey - I remember Future Crew! They made those really cool demos like 'Juice'!
While we're on this subject, anyone know if these cool coders still produce demos, even those 64kb demo competitions? If so, know where to get them?

Well, yes and no. Don't know about those unofficial 64k etc. demos, but at professional commercial level, yes.

Futuremark has a division called 3DForge, which makes demos etc. for 3d-card manufacturers and such people. Check out
www.3dforge.com for details. I know they have made demos for ATi and nVidia at least.

The Second Reality was THE demo when it came out. It was sooo beautiful and fast on my friends 486.
(Final Relity refers to it more than just by it's name..)

Look forward for the Max Payne. It's gonna be great!

What was it? 'The Assembly 96' or something? Does anyone remember those? Loads were given away on PCFormat's cover CDs ages ago, but I haven't seen any recently (bar the G400 techdemo!).
Anyone remember Juice? That was really cool! Who says you need a 3d card to do great 3d graphics?
That 3dforge did the ATi demo which doesn't run on anything but the rage128 (pah!), and also an Nvidia demo, which I'm not sure the g400 will take kindly . Anyone else know of any others?

I cannot believe people are still trying to use Final Reality for a benchmark. It boggles the mind.

in answer to where can i get Final Reality.

1 when matrox finaly admits thire not really shipping the 400 yet.

2 when matrox finaly say's thier sorry for the g200 problems.

3 when we finaly cancle all of our orders after yet another shipping delay is made

4 when nvida finaly releases the nv10 before matrox shipps the g400's to us.

should i go on.? oh you ment the benchmark prorgram , please excuse me

                      ------------------
waiting for g400 to show up can be painfull. i don't have a warped mind do i?

The only thing I hate about 3D Mark 99 Max is that the 3D marks scores is based just on the two game demos. The averages of the two are added together and then mutiplied to get the final score.
