Matrox new drivers remove filtering in distance while in opengl rendering !!!

I was looking at graphics while I saw PIXELS !!!! Yes.... pixels.
At some angle and withing a few distance, the propre rendering process isn't done.

    I think it is a bug !

      Well... the new ones !!!
      6.51 !

They seem to have problems with opengl rendering.

Look carefully at walls and you will notice some pixels that aren't filtered !!!!

Well....there were three new ones released, that's why I asked.

Goto display properties/settings/advanced/options and check "Use 32bit Z" and see if this helps.

          rags,

it has nothing to do with with z-buffer (in this case). The bilinear does not work properly, no mipmapping or something like that. Trilinear works well. In Serious Sam or Quake 3 you will see big pixel depend of the point of view you have on the texture.

I'm really surprised that only 2 of us have seen this prob.

I hope we will have soon a correction !

              Bilinear filter... obviously broken

              Trilinear filtering.. is just fine

this is in the 6.51 ICD (I run it with the 5.34 drivers, of which the OpenGL ICD is just fine)

If such is the case, shouldn't the ICD in 6.51 be faster (not rendering part of the game) ?

I lost around 5 fps in Quake 3 compared to previous drivers, using bilinear filtering.

THat is EXACTLY what I have rendered !!
And... even without the filtering.. it is slower !!!

Oh well... I am back to the old ones.

                  6.50 !

But it is strange they haven't seen this this at Matrox ??? I mean... I think this kind of thing could be considered a "major" bug no ?

So, the best driver for now is 6.50 I think.
5.52 was very great but isn't good enough for new games. So I will use 6.50 for now !

                    Hehe

                      ok,

that is what I wrote the 04/11/01 in the Matrox hardware forum

                      ---------------
I just tested 6.51. It's multi-language. I don't know what they have done to bilinear, but you should look carefully how it looks now. Bad and in Q3 it is slower.
OpenGL version go from 2.1 to 2.2.

                      35.3 trilinear 6.50 & 6.51
                      47 Bilinear 6.51
                      52 Bilinear 6.50
                      -------------------------

In some case it's looks really bad. Will try to take a shot in Q3.

I think this is a bug in a new gl_ext, or in a modified gl_ext.

So, I see that there are no serious advantages in using 6.51, apart from the fixes...

And what does the new BIOS fix?

I get these problems in CS..

The game looks quite horrible.. I play CS at 1024x768.

                          Anybody found a fix?

yeah, use an older ICD or trilinear filtering... isn't that easy?

mmm I wonder if the 6.51 drivers are the cause of my Soldier of Fortune (v1.03) crashing all the time. It didn't with the 6.50 drivers...

Oh well, just deleted my config.sys/autoexec.bat and seperated an irq sharing thing between my sound card and the USB bus... (I'll start a new thread if I continue to have problems)

                              Cheers,
