  • Whats the best driver version

    Hi Guys.

What's the best driver version for the G400MAX in Win2K when you're going for max. gaming performance?

I'm presently running driver package 5.51.005 but I have a feeling that some of the previous drivers performed better. And at the same time I'm experiencing graphical errors in Black & White as mentioned in another post.

I'm mostly playing FPS games like CS and such.

You'll have to experiment with the various drivers (and review the release notes) to see which ones address any bugs in the games you play. In Win98, the 5.52 drivers are the fastest.

Why do we play under Win2k?

      Well, many reasons.

The biggest is that I only want one OS.

The second biggest is that Win98 sucks.

The third biggest is that Win98 REALLY sucks.

Hehe. No seriously. All my games run under Win2k, so why would I want a retrograde dos-based OS on my machine?

i dont know why youre all against 6.50. this thing is not noticeable slower than those 5.52 but much easier to handle. and dont forget to disable powerdesk.

If you play any Directx8 games (Mech4 for me) then 6.21 is best. If you only play older games based on dx6 or 7, then the fastest are 5.41. By a good bit. I have extensively (as best I can anyway) all drivers from 5.41-6.5 The fastest ICD is 6.10, but only when used with 5.41-5.52 powerdesk. With PD 6.21, the 6.10 ICD gives some probs and is slighlty slower. 6.5 did nothing for me and has all that other stuff included that I don't want. So 6.21 for me. I play alot of Mech4. Of course this is just my system. Everyone will(probably)be different.
Oh, I forgot to check the system specs box, so here it is
Asus P3B-f, P3@880, 512megsPC133cas2, G40032megSH,AurealVortex2,and some other stuff not really important for this issue.

[This message has been edited by Bohrn (edited 03 April 2001).]
AMD XP2100+, 512megs DDR333, ATI Radeon 8500, some other stuff.

                    Well, what can I say.....

I'm using Windows 2000 as my operating system and therefore my interest is primarily if not only focused on drivers for that OS.

So all you people using win95, win98 etc. - thanks, but you're not helping me.

Double: If you're running games in OpenGL (HL/Q2/Q3) then you can accept the Win9x users' advice, because you can use the OpenGL ICD out of those driver sets in the Win2k ones

5.51 is not a good driver set, but does offer those 'features' that we want So, I went for 5.33 and am pleased!
