  • Serious Sam (store version) & G400s

Anyone experience problems with Serious Sam game? I am having random lock up problems. You can read the whole story on: http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~seriouss...rum=8&topic=31

DOH! A Croteam programmer/designer replied with a bad news:

wll, about Matrox - bad news ... it seems that on some systems G400/450 will lock up with no apparent reason. We're working closely with Matrox' driver developer guys, but this bug is rather nasty one. Sorry.
Of course, in case of any additional problems, feel free to contact me.
Thanx very much for your support and good luck.

    bye

Dang it! I won't be able to play SS then. I wonder how we missed this from the test versions? Does anyone else have this problem?

I am using the latest versions from Matrox. If I did have misconfigured driver settings, my other games would have issues.

Not necessarily - you might have issues with only one game...

And I guess you're using the latest Win98 drivers?

Yes. DirectX 8, latest Sound Blaster Live! driver, latest security patches, etc. Everything should be updated.

                H antdude,

I was mainly asking for the game settings ...
but besides that, it could also help to let us know your desktop and Zbuffer settings

Oh. 32-bit 1280x1024 for desktop. 32-bit Z Buffer is checked in the Matrox display panel, etc. I use 1024x768 and 16-bit colors in SS game for speed and I only have a 17" monitor.

On that URL to Serious Sam forum, there is a list of config settings. Does that help?

I got the crashes with G400 OpenGL set to default and SS to optimize for quality (PD 5.51)

I will try mine later. I am sure it won't work if it doesn't work for you.

I tried SS yesterday and it was slow, but stable ...

so either they fixed in the drivers or there's some setup difference.

Did you already try to use the fast rendering preset ?

Maggi: Yeah, I used the fast rendering. The game last longer (almost an hour), but still locked up. You can check the details on http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~seriouss...rum=8&topic=31 thread.

I see by your other thread that you have an old version of win98 (ver. #1998), you should definately upgrade as that one is very unstable with many known problems!
