  • About powerdesk6.23

    Hello all,
I've seen in this forum about the proformance
of matrox 400 decrease in pd6.23.
I've tried before,it is true that pd552 is the fastest for my system.
However, some people say that reinstall entried system can greatly increase the proformance of G400,i've uninstall previous pd completely by using the software which provided by matrox,is that enough?Since i cannot feel any increase but about 30% loss in proformance of 6.23 over 5.52
    Can anyone help me?
    Thx!

The same here. So why use the PD6.x drivers? I didn't see any fix in them that I need, so i'll go for the faster speed and higher stability of the 5.52 drivers.

BTW, which Win2k driver version is the most equivalent to the Win98 5.52 ones?

None of the Win2k drivers are equivalent to the 5.52 series. When Matrox released the 6.x series for win9x, the drivers were pretty much standard between the two OS's, each sharing similar quirks and strengths in the same releases.

I agree that the 5.52 drivers are the most stable and fastest for all games (except HL) on my system.

Consequently, I am using the 6.04 WHQL drivers to play HL, with accuracy and 1x AGP enabled.
        It's a mystery.

what servers do you play HL on?

I recently tried the 5.52 drivers and they were faster, but I lost some textures in 'Alice'so had to go back to 6.23.

I would start playing online games before you get a fast internet connection. Yes, ping matters, but it is not the only factor. If you have to overcome a poorer ping, then you will develop other skills in order to compete, and then this will be amblified once you get broadband. My Quake skills got much better after a summer of playing over modem.

              I agree with Wombat.
If you have your G400 running well you should be OK. Remember, when things seem slowest ....crowbar!

I to would agree that the 5.52 or even the 5.55 (they were for the marvel but worked good on my G400 max) were the best performing for me. But i recently downloaded Ghiants and there are some graphical problems in that game with drivers older than the 6 series drivers, At least on my system. Man is it an awesome looking game even on the G400. the G400 does not support some of the games advanced features but it looks and plays ok if you lower res and turn a few things down. On my office computer I have a Radeon which does support all features of the game and I can play it high res with all options turned high and game play is good and looks awesome too.

sorry about Radeon info I still like my g400 I have owned this card longer than any card (of coarse this is in part to matrox not releasing a better card yet) I look at my screen often and marvel at the crispness and color saturation, it is still an eye treat to me.
