  • UT in 16bit on G400 sucks

    Can you explain why the missing textures problem only happens in 16 bit? In 32 bit everything is excellent.
    And all the other options allready are on high-detail but my Voodoo still had better looking 16-bit.

    UT in 16bit on G400 sucks

    I just got my G400. I installed the latest drivers but I'm a bit disappointed in the 16bit quality in Unreal Tournament. The game looked much better on my Voodoo2 (in 16 bit at least). Besides that there are some serious texture errors in Facing Worlds and Lavagiant: textures on the front side of the towers/castles seem to disappear. When I play in 32bit, this doesn't happen. However in 32bit the game doesn't have playable frame rates so I'm bound to 16bit.
    Has anyone else encountered this problem?

      OK!
      now hit your ingame console button ,type :PREFERENCES..a window apears

      find RENDERER then DIRECT3D enable HIGH TEXTURES if it is FALSE set to TRUE then HIGH actors..& nice looking graphics apears..still you shold have a powerful CPU i.e. PIII800 to have a good frame rate..play around with settings & make your best..DONT USE TRILINEAR filtering because it takes way to much of g400 power..if it is on TRUE set FALSE , enable TRIPLEBUFF..

      flashing decals & missing textures is a driver problem so no help for that but I hope MATROX will fix it..once

      good luck !

        ahhhhhhh yes!..just wan you to knowe taht my other card(Gforce2MX 32mbDDR core=200 & mem=400 with FSAA disabled) cant run UT in 32bit with a good frame rate as well i.e. 800x600 or 1024x768 ..so this could be a general UT engine problem..

        & this :

        32 bit 3Dmark @1024x768x32 getting around 3100 (G400 32mbSGRAM around2500-2650)

        16bit 3Dmark around 5200 (G400 around 3100)

        dont think that others runs UT like HELL I even doubt that Gf2GTS or ULTRA can handle this game in 32bit with FSAA 4x4..

          Hey IcedEarth,

          Well, the flickering textures problem has been around forever. However, the latest UT drivers can fix the problem. A combination of problems with the UT engine and G400 drivers have plagued us for a LONG time.

          First of all you need to enable 32-bit Z-buffer in your windows display properties (under g400 options)

          Then go into the UT ini file and switch 32-bit zbuffer to TRUE.

          You should have the latest G400 drivers (6.10 or 6.21) and the latest UT patch (436.) Below are my ini settings.

          You should now be almost free of the flickering textures, althought they are still mildly present.

          [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
          Translucency=True
          VolumetricLighting=False
          ShinySurfaces=True
          Coronas=True
          HighDetailActors=True
          UseMipmapping=True
          UseTrilinear=False
          UseMultitexture=True
          UsePageFlipping=True
          UsePalettes=True
          UseFullscreen=True
          UseGammaCorrection=True
          DetailTextures=False
          Use3dfx=False
          UseTripleBuffering=True
          UsePrecache=True
          Use32BitTextures=False
          DescFlags=1
          dwDeviceId=1317
          dwVendorId=4139
          Use32BitZBuffer=True
          UseVertexFog=False
          UseAGPTextures=False
          UseVideoMemoryVB=False
          UseVSync=False
