    Hello !

The Nvidea has relased the new Driver OPENGL for to run this aplication with U.T.
MATROX has this driver for to work Unreal Tournament in this mode ?

I hope to use my Matrox G400max with texture compress

    thanks !

First of all: welcome to this forum!

    Answering your question:
No, Matrox does not support texture compression algorythms like FXTC and S3TC, and I doubt that a driver can provide such a feature, rather than a hardware implementation.

If you want support for compressed textures, get a card based on the S3 Savage 2000 chip, nVIdia Geforce or later generation or a Voodoo-5 card.

The G400's run UT under OGL and DirectX. The OGL engine in UT is one of the worst out there and if I'm not mistaken support for it will be dropped in the future.

I think GLide will be dropped in the future. But the next Unreal-engine will support OpenGL and Direct3D.

Unreal Tournament under OpenGL (with G400) uses a lot of RAM. May be it is ok with 192 MB or 256 MB. But my 128 MB are not enough.

The latest patches for UT (432 & 436) offer quite decent OpenGL support ...

Even thew black blocks around grenades are gone now !

Compare both against each other and you'll notice that OGL looks better ...

Hmmm, with 436 UT is a dog on my system using OGL (g400 16mb vanilla, pIII 733, 256MB ram under Win2k, drv vers 5.14).

As far as the Next Unreal engine goes, epic will be coding to D3d, but will likely have other companies do OGL for Mac and Linux markets. Don't know if anyone will do a Glide version.

I don't know if Loki's OGL driver will do S3TC on the cpu (which is possible), but if they did, I think you'd need a fairly beefy cpu to maintain good frame rates, especially with bots in game).
